One of our regular correspondents is Fred (Finney) Houghton of Las Vegas. Finney can put more on a 9¢ post card than many of us put in a letter. He approves the changes in the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE COVerS. A current one of the chapel brings back memories of his college days. The chapel bells served as a good alarm clock, and the Sunday night 5 o'clock attendance saved cuts and assured a return to Monday classes. The chapel also served as a center for any important presentations from President of the College.
Ralph Sanborn has been, and still is, a strong supporter of the Post-50 Reunions. Without too much prodding, three classmates have already signed up for this gathering in June. So take it from there, Ralph, and lead the hegira of '17ers back to Hanover.
Indirectly, we have word from Beverly Hills, Calif, that Howard (Chief) Myers is still busy as an arbitrator. His duties include membership on the Arbitration Panels of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Department of Industrial Relations of the State of California and also on the Los Angeles Employees Relations Commission. Good work, Howard.
Bert Shackford of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., is still working as a pathologist at a Long Beach Clinic, enjoying good health a happy home life.
Hal Bidwell escaped from North Haverhill, N.H., before I had an opportunity to catch up with him. After a brief stay there, he returned to his headquarters in Fair Oaks, Calif., stocked up his camper and drove to Alberta, Canada. Quote - "I take three to five-day fishing trips there and then on to Wyoming for an antelope hunt. Later, drove to Miami to join a group on a Caribbean cruise." Well, Hal, you do get around! We will all look forward to seeing you at our 60th Reunion if not before.
Sad news came from Maryland last month - that of the passing of George (Creeper) Hartshorn. A fuller notice will appear in a later issue.
Right now, your scribe is planning a brief vacation in Florida. We hope to hit Fort Lauderdale and Sarasota, and in addition to warming up, take advantage of the regular meetings of the Dartmouth Clubs in those areas and enjoy reunions with classmates who have selected that locale as a permanent or winter residence. The typewriter will be placed in cold storage temporarily, but news from any of you will be welcome for reporting in the May issue.
