An authentic source tells of the honor paid to Jake Bingham by Kappa Kappa Kappa. A silver tray was awarded bearing the following inscription: "In honor of Jake Bingham '18 for unequaled dedication to Kappa Kappa Kappa." Of course we all know that Jake has given the same sort of dedication to 1918 and Dartmouth.
Eric Ball writes: "Many thanks for your encouraging letter of quite some time ago. It cheered me up greatly. I trust all is well with both of you. Yes! I am sure you would miss your partner as I will always miss Rose. Yes! Having my sons is a great help, I assure you. Enclosed find poem Rose had finished at A.A.R.P. meeting when she collapsed, no suffering as she told me, 'No more hospital' for she was there for over a month in 1974. So I am thankful for her sake she did not suffer.
"I am slowly gathering myself together by keeping up with hobbies, historical and oil painting, etc. 'Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes.'
"Below is the all too prophetic poem by Rose: The Clock of Life The clock of life is wound but once and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at a late or early hour.
Now is the only time you own; Live, Love, Toil with will. Place no faith in tomorrow, for the clock may then be still.
Jake Crouthamel '60 was out here ten days ago for his annual trek to talk to athletically minded aspirants at a football smoker held up the road a piece at a place called Wilowbrook that wasn't even on the map ten years ago. Jake did a whale of a job selling Dartmouth; a most workman like performance in every way. Cort Horr drove down from Western Springs accompanied by Nate Whiteside '20 of Hinsdale. We three represented "the over the hill gang." I assume that Bill Shellman attended the North Shore smoker held later the same day.
During the past two weeks we lost two more of our very distinguished members, first Dwight Edson and a few days later Lester Granger. Let's declare a moratorium on this sort of thing.
