We have one last ski report. Back in February that undaunted cross-country racer, PutBlodgett, took a second in the veterans' 15 kilometer race at Putney, Vt. And now, it surely must be spring.

Ran into Charlie Fleet at the Cleveland airport a few weeks ago. He is corporate secretary and assistant to the chairman of the board of the Louisiana Land and Exploration Company. This big board outfit owns a tremendous amount of real estate in the bayou country with great petroleum reserves.

The March 1 issue of Business Week ran an in depth article on what has taken place since the 1967 merger of U.S. Plywood and Champion Paper into Champion International Corporation. For the past 15 months, Andy Sigler has been president and chief executive officer. According to the article, Andy has changed this $2.5 million company from an organization plagued with internecine warfare between its divisions to a fairly smooth running ship. It all comes down to his plan for the company and whether his management shuffle, new controls, and paper expansion will improve Champion International's profitability. "Do I know I'm right?" he asks. "No. But I'm righter with a plan than without it . . . And I yell and holler. That's something we didn't do two years ago."

George Sarner has joined Bear, Stearns, & Co. as a vice president. Another voice from the stock brokerage business is Cooz Komara. He's really glad he hung in there after the past several terrible years. Family is growing and rapidly approaching plans for college.

Dave Stanley has been promoted to senior vice president at Unionmutual. This is the Union Mutual Life Insurance Company and all of its subsidiaries. He is responsible for administration of all lines of Unionmutual business except pensions, re-insurance, and the company's Medicare operation. Dave joined the company in 1960. He has been very active in civic and industries affairs and is currently president of Maine's State Health Planning Council, and president-elect of the American Association for Comprehensive Health Planning.

Boyd and Barbara Johnson announce the birth of twins, Katherine Irene and Timothy Curtis, born January 27. They have an older son, Boyd III, age 8. Boyd has been minister of the Union Church in Waban, Mass., for the past ten years.

That's it for this month.
