Those of you looking for an apartment in the Far West Village in New York City may want to get in touch with Debbie Lippman, spouse of our friendly newsletter editor, Dick. A real-estate saleswoman and (with Dick) a ten-year resident of the FWV, she was quoted in an April 18 New York Times article. She said that in that distinct community you can get a small, rundown loft apartment on Gansevoort Street for $80,000 or a four-bedroom one with a view of the Statue of Liberty for Si million-plus.
Lippman, whose mailbox runneth over, was kind enough to share some items with me. Last year Dick French moved to Atlanta, where he has a daughter and family He also had two "verv successful lens implants" and has been attending Dekalb College "for enrichment and fun." New address: 2319 G Donwoody Crossing 30338.
Doc Howie Halfmann has also moved. He writes: "Had a stroke at the dinner at our 50th Reunion and am not doing too well had to stop golf. No more Florida for me." New address: Meredith Bridge Condos, Bldg. 5 Apt. 16, Laconia NH 03246.
During the spring Bob and Carolmae Encherman hosted Milt Williams at their home in Quechee and enjoyed showing him maple sugaring houses, beautiful Montpelier, and the University of Vermont. They report Milt looking and feeling fine.
Also via Lippman (from Krete), a N.Y. Daily News five-column piece on Joe Wilder with a large photo of Joe in front of his painting of Jackie Robinson. The Robinson connection was explained in a full-page N.Y. Times ad raising money for Harlem R.B.I. (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities). R.B.I, offered (for $300) a full-color offset lithograph of a limited edition of 500 of Joe's Jackie Robinson, signed by the artist. Good show, Joe.
The Dartmouth Alumni Council held its 166th meeting in Hanover in late A lay, and our class was well represented by current councilors Jim Ingersoll and Dick Riggs, and by former councilors Bob Kirk and Guy Swenson. Following the meeting, Bob wrote me that "it was our unanimous opinion that the College is in excellent hands." Earlier in May, at the Class Officer's Weekend, Jack Corwith expressed his faith in Jim Ingersoll's evenhanded approach and said he was conlidentjim's positions on policy matters would be a fair reflection of the middle spectrum of opinion in our class. Jack stressed that classmates wishing to convev their opinions to the Council should feel free to get in touch with Jim or any one of the other three men listed above.
Don't forget to call Huntly Allison regarding the October 22-23 mini-reunion (Cornell Game). Reserved rooms at Dowd's Country Inn are getting fewer with each passing week.
