We report another six deaths among our numbers. Mike Peisch died on January 31; Jim Allen passed away in his native Canada on March 5; JimPowers one month later on April 15; PhilJohnson on May 4; and as we write we have received word from Skip Morse of RodgerHarrison's death on June 8. We recently learned from the College that Warren B. Phinney died more than a year ago, on March 15, 1994. (Obits in this or a following issue.)

On a happier note, Bobby Jacobson's green card from Florida reports a good recovery from a stroke in 1994, to a point where he is now back on the golf course and feeling fine. He speaks of seeing Sam Thrum occasionally between rounds. Sam was at the March 15 executive committee meeting in N.Y.C.

Speaking of Florida reminds us of a visit in Vero Beach this past winter from Chuck andBetty Farnum. They were over from Sanibel Island for a few days with Betty's cousin, Doc Philips, a Williams guy whom I knew and who had previously given me a copy of a book he'd written recounting the tale of his childhood romance in the Moskoka Lakes district of Ontario, Canada. So, naturally, I mentioned the book to Betty, and, lo and behold, she turned out to be the heroine of the tale. Since I had a copy at hand, she identified her full-page picture that occupied the prize spot in the book.

Another tale of interest has to do with AlAbbott, who owned the Dartmouth Bus line in Hanover. In 1970 Tony Lupien's Green baseball team won 21 straight games, the Eastern League Championship, and an NCAA Division 1 championship, qualifying them to the College World Series. Through a political foul up, at the District 1 championship game, scheduled to be played in Hanover, Dartmouth was declared the "visiting team." Lupien who had a great sense of humor, engaged Al Abbott and one of his buses before each game, loaded his team aboard, and requested Al to take them anywhere, with the stipulation that they would arrive at Red Rolfe Field in time for the game. This is an anecdote we picked up from the new Sports Weekly on campus.

Georgie Hanna reports that Lou Highmark's grandson Scott, the son of the only non-Dartmouth Highmark sibling, was named the Player of the Game in his team's (St. Louis U.) loss to Wake Forest in the NCAA basketball tournament.

O'Brien Boldt is working on a teamwork idea, promoting what he calls "rings" of mutually supportive enterprises in targeted cities or regions. This to develop environmentally benign companies (and jobs) for those currently squeezed out of the work force. Call him at (201) 569-5721 for details.
