Trunkie Brittan, who is chairing our 50th reunion, reminds us that the dates are June 810. Hope you can make it! He advises that if you want to stay at the Hanover Inn you should write immediately for reservations and mention that you are coming for your 50th reunion. The Inn will acknowledge but not confirm or deny till midwinter.

In July I was privileged, along with several other of our classmates, to take part in the Horizons program at Dartmouth - a review of new facilities and activities on the campus. Because of space limits in this column, we'll have to rely on Harry Baehr's newsletter to give the full story. The '29 participants in the Horizons program are indebted to Ed and PollyChinlund for a farewell luncheon at the D.O.C. House.

A note from Frank Weeks: "Elsie and I have been doing much traveling abroad during the last 18 years, so much so that I've developed a "Retirement Project" of showing travel slides at country clubs, garden clubs, schools, etc. I'm now arranging my photos from a recent trip to Bhutan and India. Also I'm fostering luncheon meetings for the Dartmouth Club of Chicago at the Adventurers Club (of which I have been a member since 1946). I gave 17 slide shows in 1977 and have given ten so far this year. We've visited some 70 different countries. I'm also writing monthly articles for the University Club of Chicago and playing contract bridge with my wife and friends - so, I am busier than ever!"

Last March Bob Lyle had an operation for a circulatory problem in his right foot, which meant he was flat on his back for some time. But he recovered in time to do some highly effective work for the Alumni Fund.

Shep Stone, Director of the Aspen Institute in West Berlin, was quoted in the April 30 New York Times on the subject of terrorism in Europe, stating that 99.9 per cent of the people are not affected by it but that leaders have to learn to live with the threat, (And so do tourists, as I found out in 1977.)

George McKean sent an article reporting that Ed Chinlund has been given the first Kiskiminetas Springs School outstanding alumnus award. Congratulations! The citation read, in part, "In your steady climb to the peak of your profession you were never too busy to contribute your widely-acknowledged financial genius to the welfare of your school. . . . Indeed, it might well be said that had it not been for you there would be no Kiski today."

A brief note from Rip Ripley: "The JohnBrown Cook Foundation will continue his work for the preservation of freedom. He and I ran it together for many years. . . . On the way north last week I called John Moxon and found him in the Reading hospital for repairs. I called him later and found he was going home the next day."

Morgan Baker wrote to Jack Hubbard many months ago: "With the exception of a wonderful trip with a small group from our Santa Barbara Botanic Garden to visit the gardens of southern England, our life might not seem very exciting. But living here in Montecito in this splendid retirement residence has proven to be a real joy. This new life complete with a big batch of fine new friends is a good thing. We are still near enough to Ojai to keep in touch with our former pals - we were there last night for a dinner dance."

And another Californian checks in: BenScales, from Garden Grove: "Finally retired from my civilian career with the navy, as a management analyst and budget director. Now preparing a novel management training course for hospital middle managers - with emphasis upon cost responsibility and control. Married second time around seven years ago to my 20-year junior, Carolyn, who is active in advertising and public relations."

Pres Randlett writes: "I retired five years ago after many years with the Internal Revenue Service. Mary and I are reasonably healthy and keep occupied with simple things like gardening. Hope to make it in '79!"

And a few words from Edson Phelps: "Retired now from public school administration and serving as District Director, Rotary International, for southern Vermont and New Hampshire."

Our sympathy goes to two of our classmates who recently lost their wives: Erwin Vollmer and Carl Norden.
