As Dartmouth begins its 210th year of enrollment just a bit of historical news about your College, all you fair-weather Big Greeners - the Class of '76 begins its third year out in the cruel world. There might be some notable accomplishments, but not much has drifted by this relayer's pad.
Cliff Krauss who "never thought I would be running a hotel back in '76," is now doing just that. Cliff is the innkeeper of the King's Grant Inn in Guilford, N.H., a small, country resort near Lake Winnipesaukee. "The most fun we have is with our medieval manor banquets every weekend. The banquet is a two-hour, tencourse feast including a stuffed pig, where everyone eats with their hands. It's more fun than Frat Row!" Right you are. Cliff, although Sigma Nu might think burning living room furniture on their front lawn is more fun. Anyway, Cliff hopes classmates and all alumni will stop by when in the area for a little stuffed pig and other delights.
Speaking of burning, The Classmate Of The Summer Award goes to Dron Atrandum. Dron, who works for the Centerville, Ohio, volunteer fire department, rescued a "scrumptious" disco-ite before she "went up like a candle" by spraying her transparent jeans which had been set ablaze by an obvious pyromaniac. Good going, Dron.
Fred Jaccarino proposed to, and on June 10 married, Ellen Frankel '75. Fred is employed as a chemist for the Greenwich (Conn.) Water Co., and is studying towards his master's in chemistry at N.Y.U. Ellen is a third-year medical student at New York Medical College. Following graduation she plans on a residency in dermatology. Maybe Ellen can help the misfortunate disco queen regain her lost transparency. Congrats from all, Fred and Ellen.
Chuck McCann is working for Digital Equipment Corp., and says "my wife Robin is at a consulting firm." Chuck joined forces with some other alumni - Bud Lease '75, who just got married, and Glen "Moonyap" Mercer '77. Chuck's new address: 11366 Cherry Hill Rd., #204, Beltsville, Md. 20705.
Another marriage well attended by members of '76 was that of John "Half-a-Reefer"Haffenreffer. Best man was Rufus Sisson. Groomsmen were Tom Daniels and John Gile. Wedding goers were: Jack "Flash" Brennan, Peter "Bacon" Dakin, Kevin "Tuna" Dow- ning, Marty Doyle, Dave "Next" Clark, Bill "Pass-out" Hutchinson, Jay "Bendover" Josselyn, Rob "Chief' Mcllrath, Lawrence "Pud" Nichols, Scott "Diktator" Specht, Tom "Dirtball" Parnon, Ken "The Lover" Pettie, "Hamron" Hank Ostwald, Mark Ringo, Gus "Another Lover" Sauter, and Charlie "Stien" Solberg '75. Anyone else I forgot, sorry. I imagine there would have been more news if that weekend in St. Louis had encompassed anything more than pre-wedding parties, a pool party prior to the ceremony, and then the endless bombardment of champagne, which caused this relayer to seek refuge on the first fairway for the duration of the reception. A well deserved rest. Great time had by all. Oh, I almost forgot, Dave Clark says that there might be another reason to travel to St. Louis in the near future. As opposed to Fred Jacarrino, who proposed to and then married Ellen Frankel, Reefer was a little mixed up - he married one Laurie Thompson, then proposed to her.
Fraser Marcus has been elected an assistant secretary with Manufacturers Hanover Trust's International Division, in New York City.
Copa Cavanaugh, somewhere in Africa, writes illegibly that "the weather is hot, the food great, the people hostile, but am having no trouble with language and culture."
Another Xeroxed tidbit has Mary Jewett engaged to Donald Grant Jr. The tidbit says that Mary is "a development field coordinator for the Nature Conservation in Arlington, Va., and her fiance is an associate editor of Yachting, a magazine published in N.Y.C.
Bob Piela is at graduate school at the University of Massachusetts working on a degree in one of the science branches.
Speedy McDonnell says, "I'm having great luck with my new disco group, the only thing is I don't like having to keep my shirt unbuttoned to the waist, and these damn chains scratch my chest." Good luck, Speedy.
Will someone please send some information about illicit activities? It's getting a bit tedious reading about marriages and promotions.
