Winter is reluctantly drawing to a close in the Windy City, but with the Cubs underway in Scottsdale and the White Sox opening camp in Sarasota, spring cannot be far behind. Of course, the real attraction is in Tucson where the Cleveland Indians are preparing for their 1978 pennant drive. Between scanning issues of The Sporting News, I have managed to unearth some items for this month's column.

Cincinnati will be the new home for BobKefferstan, who has completed coursework for a Ph.D. in learning disabilities at Northwestern University. Bob has taken a job at The Olympus Center, a new facility for individuals experiencing learning problems. Alex Medlicott is now a general medical officer with the Alaska Native Health Service in a town 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Alex says he is well-trained in "bush medicine."

Bill Price reports from Stanford business school that over the winter holidays he traveled to Seattle where he and Thurm Lowans skied on Mt. Baker. Bill also ran into Bryant Toth, who is located in San Francisco finishing his residency.

Another Stanford b-school type is BrookMcCann, who graduated from there in June. Brook now works at Dillon, Read & Co., Inc. in New York City as an associate in the corporate finance department.

Reid Andrews reports that he was married in 1974 to Roye A. Werner, and presently lives in Lawrence, Mass. He and his wife are "into urban blight" and are planning to write a children's book about their experiences. They have recently spent 18 months in Argentina. He also reports that Martin Staff is living in New York, where he is "somebody important at Bloomingdale's, and has a very attractive wife named Robin." Reid also notes that DaveDethier has received a Ph.D. in geology and is "trying to decide what to do with himself."

Word comes from Gary Smothers that he and his wife are the parents of Molly Beth Smothers, born October 4, 1977. According to Gary, their first child, Matthew Scott, is already two and a half years old and "will probably be on the gridiron at Dartmouth before we know it."

Chris Carstensen reports that he has moved to St. Louis where he has begun working for Ralston-Purina Company, and would appreciate hearing from any '72s in that area. Headed for Grand Forks, N.D., is GlenHodgson, who joined the city engineering department there. He and his wife Diane are the new parents of Christopher Jon, born May 11, 1977. Recent visitors to Gary and his wife in Minot, N.D., were Wayne Fujisawa and his wife Gail. Apparently, Wayne complains of the high viscosity of Chicago air and dreams of returning one day to New England.

Lloyd Ucko reports that he is now in business with his father in New Jersey after working at General Foods for two years. He and his wife Bunny just had a son, Christopher, who "seems intent upon being a Big Greener as he seems to have a good hoist for beers." Ken Godshall is in his first year at Wharton School of Business Administration at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife recently completed a trip to Italy before returning to academia.

Former hockey star Steve Arndt and his wife Kim report the birth of their second child, Jaime Megan, in Concord, N.H., on January 5, 1978. Kim notes that son Daniel Ryan is now two years old and can "ruin a house quicker than any of the boys at the Nu Lodge ever could."

In the wedding department, J. C. McKenzie was married to Debra Pedersen on April 8 in Glen Cove, Long Island. J. C. is an associate in the municipal finance department of Salomon Brothers in New York City and his wife is an analyst in the corporate finance department of Morgan Stanley & Company there.

Keep writing and don't forget to contribute to the Alumni Fund. See you next month with details of spring training.
