This month it seems that good news comes in pairs. I have received word of engagements, marriages, promotions, and significant advances in the communications world by our classmates. Congratulations are first of all in order to Charles Howarth and Susan Eileen Teer who were married on October 28. After graduating from Dartmouth, Chuck earned a master's degree in zoology from our neighbor, the University of New Hampshire at Durham. He currently has what seems like a very interesting job as a teacher at the Museum of Science in Boston. Susan, for her part, was graduated from Fairfield University and then went on to the Albany Branch of S.U.N.Y. and received her master's degree in criminal justice. She currently coordinates a juvenile delinquency program in Lynn, Mass.
Some three weeks later Jeff Dahlman and Georgia Nyhart were married. Greg Kean and Chip Sharkey served as ushers. Since graduation Jeff has been busy - initially at the Syracuse University College of Law and currently as an attorney with the North American Phillips Corp. in New York City. Georgia, who attended the Madeira School in Greenway, Va., and Finch College in New York City, is an assistant secretary at Chemical Bank. Despite her busy schedule she has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Finch College. She made her debut at the 1967 Dramatic Club Christmas Cotillion in Indianapolis and subsequently represented Indiana at the International Ball in New York City.
I have word of two fine promotions. The aforementioned (as we say in the trade) WilliamSharkey has been appointed a director of customer service in charge of group pension operations at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. Chip joined Connecticut General in 1970. He became an actuarial assistant in 1974, a senior such assistant in 1976, and was subsequently appointed assistant actuary. He and his wife Nancy have settled in Canton, Conn., which is a lovely area.
It has come to my attention that the partners of the law firm of Bowdich & Dewey of Worcester, Mass., have made our own David Grossi a partner in their firm. Dave, after a Phi Beta Kappa graduation from Dartmouth, studied law at N.Y.U. and was admitted to the bar in. 1973. He joined his present firm that same year and has been involved in a variety of activities in the Worcester area. He is a board member of the Edward Street Day Care Center and has served as chairperson of the Voluntary Action Center. In addition, he has been active in the United Way serving as a vice president of the Central Massachusetts area and has also been a vice president and director of the Central Massachusetts Health Association. He and his wife, the former Lea Trinka, live in Westboro.
I also have two engagements to report. The engagement of Richard Shepherd and Lucy Robertson has been announced. An April wedding in Virginia is planned. Rick has had an interesting time of things since graduating. He received a commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy and then served for two years aboard the destroyer the U.S.S. Buck in the Pacific. He earned a master's degree in accounting at Northeastern University and has an enviable job as a CPA with Price, Waterhouse & Co. in Freeport, in the Bahamas. After graduating from Duke University, Lucy interned at the V.A. hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., and received a master's degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
While the law is a jealous mistress, ChrisMarshall has found time to woo a fellow attorney, Janina Stodolsky, of Manchester, N.H. Chris has had a distinguished career, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from Dartmouth. After briefly forsaking his home state of New Hampshire to attend George Washington Law School, he returned to the North Woods to serve as law clerk to Justice Frank Grimes of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Chris subsequently became associated with McLane, Graff, Greene, Raulerson & Middleton, P.A., in Manchester. Janina, for her part, has also had a distinguished career, graduating from Vassar and then from the Boston University School of Law. She then began practice with Sulloway, Hollis, Godfrey & Soden in Concord, N.H. She is now in private practice in Manchester, specializing in domestic law and women's rights. Janina has followed her interests in her spare time as well, serving as a member of the Governor's Commission on Children and Youth and as a board member of New Hampshire Legal Assistants. Somehow she also finds time to teach paralegal studies at Notre Dame College in Manchester. Her diverse legal experience also includes a stint as a judge in the Concord District Court, and she has the distinction of having been the first woman judge of that court.
