"WE did it," said swimming coach Ron Keenhold. Had the Dartmouth swimming team finished first in the Eastern Intercollegiate Swim League championship? No. The team actually finished fourth, but for Keenhold that place was as good as first because Harvard, Princeton, and Army had all but been awarded the top three spots. The team, faced with the first losing season since Keenhold joined Dartmouth, voted back in January to peak for the EISL meet, and that decision paid off as the swimmers set nine College records and 45 "personal best" performances.
"Nobody was more surprised than I at the way this team swam," said Keenhold. "No one predicted that the swimmers would turn in so many outstanding performances." Top swimmers for Dartmouth were Todd Taylor, Greg Dozer, Kent Whitaker, and Bob Spears.
