The swimming team now stands at 1-1 for the season. After an opening victory over Brown, reported last month, the Indians lost to a strong Harvard contingent, 60-35. The meet featured a record-breaking performance by the Cantabs' David Abramson, who broke the American and NCAA record for the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.7.
Jeff Galper turned in the best performance for the Green with a victory in the 200-yard butterfly. A number of other Dartmouth swimmers made their best showing to date, though not always in a winning way. Steve Cochrane and Dick Willans were second and third behind Harvard's John Pringle in the backstroke, while Pete Steck was second to Abramson in the 500-yard freestyle. Carl Dußei, Alan Davis, George Fesus, and Galper proved to be a winning combination in the final relay.
