In just a few days after you read this we'll be gathering on the campus for our Fabulous 50th, and I hope we can all make it in reasonably good health. In preparation, several mini- reunions have been held in different parts of the country; in the Washington area an even dozen of us gathered for dinner at the Kenwood Club: Duke and Horty Barto, Merrill and Kay Beede,Ed and Polly Chinlund (down from Hanover to give us the latest word), Dave and Did Cogan,Harris and Hazel Huston, Carl Norden, and your secretary. After their maiden names rose to the surface, Did and Kay discovered that they had been classmates at Vassar, so a second reunion took place!

In this reminiscent vein we have some thoughtful words from Edmund Jacobitti: "You will notice that this letter is dated February. Only hours ago we welcomed in a brand New Year, and now one twelfth of this year is already history. Has someone quietly enlarged the opening at the waist of the hour glass? Are the grains of sand finer than they used to be? Or is it our hectic life style that makes time fly by so rapidly?

"In any event it would seem prudent to evaluate more closely that precious commodity 'time' that slips so easily through our fingers, that once expended can never be recalled except in our memories. And so these 50 years should bring out many happy moments - reunions, family gatherings, visits with longtime friends, memories of tasks well done. And for some there was hurt too - the loss of loved ones, illness, or disappointments more than bandaids could ease.

"But this time of 50 years is worthy of our full attention; in fact it seems to me nothing else at this moment commands more joyful attention. My 50 years have been busy and rewarding. Between medicine and religion, my life has been full, almost more than I dared hope for. I have not relaxed my labors, and I hope to continue to the age of 100, and go into semi- retirement when I am 101." (And here's hoping you make it, Ed.)

Jack Hubbard sends along some more of your notes:

From Russell Thomas: "I really don't know what to say in the way of news after being out of touch with the Class and the College for all these years - it would take a book. Suppose it is enough to say that Lois and I are still in pretty good condition physically and since being retired have more leisure to do things. We have a motor home in which we travel quite a bit, usually going to Mexico in the winter. In fact, we are in a beautiful trailer park on Lake Chapala as I write this."

From Nelson Hartstone: "To the best of my recollection it is nearly 25 years since I've been in Hanover; too much water has gone over the dam even to summarize it. A few highlights - Ginny died over six years ago. I have remarried (Eleanor) and thereby acquired a new son and daughter to add to Marcia and four grandchildren. My domicile is now in Florida, where I spend about seven months of the year (with the first ten days of each month in Boston), and I live in Marion, Mass., the rest of the year. I have not retired and try to squeeze in time for a still-active law practice. Have given up racing cruising-class boats and taken up golf again. My collection of Chinese "rice grain" porcelain is on exhibit at the Museum of American Chinese Trade in Milton, Mass. It will be there till next April and to my knowledge is the only collection in the country."

From Arch Crowley: "Family is all grown up - two sons, their wives, and six grandchildren. Both families live near here, so we see them quite often. Chatham, on the Cape, is a great place for retirement. Plenty to do but at a relaxed rate. The Class of '29 is well represented in the Cape Dartmouth Club, so we see each other frequently."

From Phil Fitzpatrick: "We have a grandson, Michael Harrell, now a freshman at Dartmouth, so we are looking forward to frequent visits to Hanover in the next four years."

And another one: Wendell Schuh writes, "Grandson Steve Schuh is carrying on Dartmouth's in town again for the Class of 1982."
