I have recently learned that Steve Quigley, former class scribe, is remaining very active in Dartmouth affairs in the Boston area alumni club. The Captain serves as an Alumni Council representative for this area. Steve is presently a sales executive with the publishing house of Addison-Wesley.
Another son of Massachusetts, GeorgeLeach, recently stopped by my apartment on his way to Europe. For the last couple of years "The Leaper" has been counseling students and coaching track at Phillips Exeter. According to his last letter, he is presently in France enjoying the wine and women and "doing some teaching for tour groups."
I ran into Stu Pechter at a Dartmouth Alumni Fund telethon recently. Stu graduated from Tufts University School of Dentistry and is presently finishing up a graduate program in periodontics at Boston University. Stu is marrying his "home-town honey" Madeline Labiane this June (it's been a long wait) and will then move to Boca Raton, Fla., where he'll be joining a small periodontal practice.
Another classmate who is about to walk down the aisle is Dave Clark. Dave went on to the University of Texas Law School after Dartmouth. He is now working for "Jimmy Carter's law firm," King and Spalding, in Atlanta along with another classmate, Ben Wilson (Harvard Law School '76). Dave will be marrying Margie Wagers, another Atlanta lawyer, in Dallas in early summer.
George Woholojian was the organizer of the aforementioned telethon which was held at Northeastern University. George is now a professor of political science and public administration at Northeastern. He has already received his master's and will be awarded his doctorate this spring from Syracuse University. George's wife Donna is teaching elementary school in North Reading, Mass.
I recently spoke with Reed Greene. Reed taught courses in the classics at the St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., for a year after graduation and then earned a masters' in public policy at the University of Texas. He is now a manager of a utilities company in Corpus Christi, Tex., and is working on an M.B.A. Reed reported that our class treasurer, Joe Powers, is working on the same degree at NYU in New York City. However, Joe is such an obnoxious and persistent Yankee fan, I don't know how he will be able to concentrate on his studies this spring. My heart is in Fenway Park so he knows how much I enjoyed last season. Joe and I have had a running battle about the two teams.
I have news about four former Dartmouth hockey players: Former varsity hockey player and Softball pitcher par excellence, DaveWalkum, is alive and well and working in Windsor, Ontario, as a claims adjuster for a Canadian insurance company. Dave Sullivan is in the process of leaving the New England Life Insurance Co. and joining the General Rein-surance Company in Hartford. Conn., in a management position. Jake Johnston is teaching math. English, and physical education at a high school in Mississauga, Ontario. And Bruce Ling will be getting his M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in May and has accepted a job with The Royal Bank, Canada's largest.
Finally, let me close with a letter from JeffAdam.
"Just a quick note to announce the birth of my first child, Thomas Martin, born January 6, 1979. He weighed 7 lbs 14 oz.
"I graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1977 and am presently doing a residency in otolaryngology at Ohio State. My wife, Wynn, who was a classmate in medical school, is already back to her residency in radiology."
That's it for this month. See you next.
