As I write this column, Boston is enjoying the last smile of summer. The Pops have a new conductor and the Sox need a new manager. The Patriots hold out the promise of frustration while the Boston Globe rates Dartmouth as one of the pre-season Ivy favorites for this, the 100th year of Big Green football. By the time this publication reaches your doorstep we will be well through the season, but one can only hope that Kemp, Shula, and Co. glisten enough to earn the Ivy gold.

However, before I jump too far into autumn, I would like to tie up some loose ends from last spring. First, congratulations are due to Andy Caffrey who was recently married to Elise Pickering. Andy is currently a partner with his father in an Andover, Mass., law firm. Andy went on to Villanova University Law School after Dartmouth and Elise is a graduate of the Wharton School.

Another '73 who recently walked down the aisle was former class scribe Steve Quigley. He married Suzanne Daley of Marblehead on July 26, 1980. Steve is currently an editor in the mathematics division of the Addison-Wesley Publishing Company in Reading, Mass.

On April 2, 1980, Derrick Crandail received a Professional Performance Award from the American Society of Association Executives. Derek is currently the vice president for public affairs of the International Snowmobile Industry Association. He was cited for his work in increasing the opportunities for snowmobiling in safe and scenic locations in the United States and Canada through the development of a workable program for influencing public land-use decisions in both countries.

I ran into Bill Nisen at a telethon for the Alumni Fund in June. Bill graduated from the Harvard School of Design and is currently employed there as assistant director of labor for Computer graphics, whatever that means. He and his wife Sue live in Watertown. Bill told me to pass the word that he is always looking for a good poker game. Unfortunately, I did not have Chip Reese's telephone number handy.

During that same telethon, I reached ClarkGraff via Ma Bell. Clark also graduated from the Harvard School of Design. He is currently working as an architect with Tise Associates in the Boston area. Clark's wife Jill works in the personnel division of the Shawmut National Bank.

This fall will find Ray Sansouci back in New England. However, he'll be operating a couple of hours south of Kappa Sig and Dragon at the Crimson Community Business College, better known as the Harvard B-school. After six years of sales and marketing with Westinghouse, I guess that Ray decided to take a couple of years off.

Another classmate who is moving to Massachusetts is Dave Nichols. Our resident innkeeper of the Hanover Inn has changed his colors and moved south to become the general manager of the Lord Jeffrey Inn at Amherst College.

Bob Norton and I crossed paths in Boston last summer. Snorts has finished his medical residency in Atlanta and he and Ginger have moved to Portland, Ore. Bob will be practicing emergency-room medicine and teaching a course in that subject at the University of Oregon Medical School. Ah yes, Professor Snorts.

George Woholojian has left his teaching position at Northeastern University in Boston and has a joint appointment as an assistant professor at the Institute of Urban Studies at the University of Maryland and as a faculty research associate at the Bureau of Governmental Research. George's wife Donna is pursuing a doctorate in education at the University of Maryland.

George reported that Nils Johnson has hung out a shingle and is practicing law back in his home area near Canfield, Ohio. And another Dartmouth lawyer, Jim Fleischer, has been working for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board since his graduation from Duke Law School. Jim's recent bride Sarah is also a Duke Law School graduate and currently works for a D.C. firm with a strong Dartmouth contingent.

Finally, kudos to Bob Barr for a fine job on the recently revived newsletter. Keep on sending him those cards and letters. Bob loves to have mail to read.

That's all the news that fits. Stay tuned next month for the travels and exploits of J. Wright.
