It is warm and sunny in Boston today, although I suspect that by the time this column reaches your doorstep cooler autumn breezes will be blowing in downtown Boston. The class of 1988 has now matriculated on the campus. There were 8,800 applications for a class of slightly more than 1,000 students. The freshman class comprises approximately 60 percent men and 40 percent women. Somehow it seems hard to believe that it was 15 years ago that we arrived on the Hanover Plain and began our respective Dartmouth experiences.

Speaking of new experiences, Kate Stith Pressman was married on September 15 to Jose A. Cabranes, who is a federal district court judge in Connecticut. Kate has recently joined the faculty of the Yale Law School. Prior to Yale, Kate attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and graduated from Harvard Law School where she was the articles editor of The Harvard Law Review. She then went on to serve as a law clerk to Judge Carl McGowan of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and proceeded from that clerkship to the United States Supreme Court where she clerked for Justice Byron R. White. Kate later served as an economist at the Council of Economic Advisors in the Carter White House before joining the United States Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York. Kate, congratulations to you both.

George Leach has recently left his position as a financial aid officer for Harvard College, crossed the Charles River, and is now gainfully employed as an admissions officer at the Harvard Business School. If any classmates are interested in applying, I am confident that George could work wonders for you.

Thad King has been spending more time in Hanover than Atlanta. Thad recently attended the highly recommended Alumni College program on computers at Dartmouth. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Council and is chairman of the Nominating Committee of the Alumni Council. Thad is currently reviewing nominations for a number of important alumni positions, including nominations for the Board of Trustees.

As you can see, my news is somewhat light this month. Therefore, if you have any news which you would like to share with the class in regard to you, your family, or other classmates, please send it along. In the meantime, I trust that everyone is having an enjoyable fall. See you next month.
