Greetings. I just finished reading Lenny Glass's article in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE (September 1980) on the "Dartmouth Animal and the Hypermasculine Myth" and really enjoyed it. Please read the article if you have not done so. My only comment on the hypermasculinity syndrome (being tough, virile, and horny, with excess aggression on the athletic field, too much beer drinking, and reckless acts of dubious wisdom) is that like a teenage complexion problem it may subside and later disappear with age.

Jeff Shendell has joined the C. R. Gibson Co. as national sales manager. In this new position, Jeff will be in charge of the company sales force and will be responsible for total corporate sales. Jeffs background was in retailing and he worked for Bloomingdale's, Bamberger's, Rike's, Associated Dry Goods Flagship store, and Lord & Taylor. Jeffs new job at C. R. Gibson, publishers of memory books, stationery, and related gift items, is in Norwalk, Conn. (I borrowed a memory book once but it took me so long to read that by the time I finished it I forgot who I borrowed it from.)

John F. D'Aprix, formerly executive associate to the president and director of corporate planning at Thomas Jefferson University, has been appointed a vice president of the University. John's appointment was approved by the Board of Trustees on April 7, 1980. John will serve as the University's chief planning officer and will also assist the deans of the three colleges in the planning and development of new academic programs. John lives in Wynnewood, Pa., and is presently completing his Ph.D. (We all know what a university corporate planner is: It is a guy who tells the alumni a building will cost ten million and it ends up costing 20.)

Steve Blecher tells me he has changed jobs gave up management consulting for Coopers & Lybrand and has joined Lehman Brothers, Kuhn, Loeb as senior vice president of their investment management division. (Steve got sick of jingling change in his pocket and wants to get into the big time with greenback dollars.)

Got a short note from Ed Rubel who is living in London presently. He tried to make reunion but somehow never got out this way. He sends his best to all '64s.

The July 14 issue of Business Week talked about management shifts at Interbank (producers of Master Charge Cards) and announced the arrival of George "Jack" Fesus from American Express to Interbank as senior vice president of marketing. (What a great name Master Charge is. It is the ideal card for master chargers our wives.)

One last note. At the risk of repeating myself, I want it known by all that Bob Bartles was honored in May by the College as Class President of the Year 1979-1980. His activities included: member of alumni council, chairman of the Fraternity Board of Overseers, former newsletter editor, trustee of his fraternity, cochairman of 15th reunion, and president of the Upper Valley Alumni club. However, the activity that assured him this honor was when he spearheaded a drive to buy a new leaf vacuum cleaner to be used this fall. (You all remember the leaf vacuum cleaner?) Bye.
