Before I begin to thank all of you for writing such great letters to me, I must comment on something that might otherwise go unnoticed. We must be putting a lot of pressure on the '78s, as we used to do in Hanover, with our outstanding personalities, since I've noticed that Jeff Immelt '78 feels it necessary to bad-mouth us in public. If you can't stand the heat, "Natti," get out of the kitchen, with a horse and a cow and a pig. (Private joke, gang!)
Well, that's enough of that. I can't tell you how happy I am that you've all taken the time to drop me notes. Unfortunately, some of you write so badly that I can't read a thing (GeorgeStone!). Therefore, I request that, if you never learned good penmanship, please buy a typewriter!
Off to the races! Before I forget him, DaveFrankel is now a co-anchor for WNNE-TV here in Hanover. Dave has made tremendous upward movement already, and only continued success can follow. My old pal Angela Kalisiak is attending U. Conn. Med School and living with Eileen Kain, who is a first-year dental student at U. Conn. also. Hi, Angie!
Michael Biondi was married to Cindy Ginn 'BO on October 6, and they are making their home in Philadelphia. Mike is attending both the Wharton School of Business and U. Penn. Law for a joint J.D. and M.B.A. More info out of Philly has Craig Williams attending Temple University Dental School. Good luck to all of you in the City of Brotherly Love.
I want to thank Curtiss Rooks for his letter; Curt, you can call me Mr. Roby. Curtiss says he has really enjoyed his experience as a coach for Penn State's football team. During his travels, he bumped into classmates David Stone and Steve Williams, who are setting up shop in Columbia, S.C. Jon Saxe is at home in Mt. Union, Pa., trying to decide which med school to attend next year. Tough life, Jon. Charlie Bertel is pursuing a career in medicine in the great city of New Orleans. And lastly. Curt wrote that Andy Kline is at the Yale Divinity School searching for the "Holy Grail." Thanks for all the useful information, Curt, and good luck.
Barbara Wiese wrote recently to inform us all of her marriage to Bruce McKinney in Philadelphia. While Barbara searches for a job in Williamsville, N.Y., Bruce is holding down the fort as an engineer for General Motors. Thanks, Barb, and happy hunting.
Mary Heslin spent the fall collecting immunization data in Alaska and will be in Moscow studying Russian this winter. Not bad! She also wrote that Steve Tower is attending med school in Fairbanks, Alaska. Great choice, Steve, you must have had a lot of schools to choose from, huh? Dan Billman is studying fish at the University of Washington in Seattle. Annemarie Haag is working for Arthur Anderson in Bethlehem, Pa. Lastly from Mary came word that Patty Pierce is doing solar energy research for Arthur D. Little Inc. in Boston. Thanks so much, Mary.
Dave Brown took a position with the Monroe County Planning Commission as an assistant planner and is living in Monroe, Mich.
Word from Thunder Bay, Ontario, arrived not too long ago. Joey Tomlak is alive and kicking and skiing and playing hockey back home in "Crazy Canadian" country. Lak is searching for employment and living the good life.
Mark "Schnix" Schneider sent word once again from beautiful Boulder, Colo. Mark was living with Rusty Joyce until Rusty couldn't stand him anymore and had to head back East to Beantown. "Schnix" will be heading to Europe to teach tennis before attending law school next fall. Speaking of degenerates, I've heard a nasty rumor that Bob Utzschneider,"Dirty" Ed Baldridge, Bill "Swanny" Swenson,Lyman "Sicky" Missimer, and Tom Bird '79 are living in a house together in the Windy City. Chicago is not ready for that living arrangement, that's for sure!
Getting back to important people. Anna Burack returned from an expedition in northern Labrador in time to enroll in the master's program at U.N.H. to continue studying geology. "Ex-cheerleader supreme" (that's a direct quote from her) Dot Bullock is presently teaching eighth grade math in Atlantic City, N.J. Dot, how can you be bored with all that gambling going on down there. Well, I guess on a teacher's salary, you are right after all!
Back on the marriage circuit for a moment, Meg Morrow and Greg Clayton tied the knot recently and are living in Washington, D.C. Meg is working for the international relations department of the League of Women Voters, while Greg is struggling through his first year at Georgetown along with Tom O'Neil, T.J. Crane, and Doug Furth. Thanks for the card, Greg, and good luck to you and Meg.
My saxophone-playing buddy, Craig Enright, checked in recently, writing that he is setting up shop in Chi-town and blowin' his horn regularly (hopefully in the privacy of his own home). Craig, my family is great and they send their love.
If you can believe this, one Bruce Nickelsen is working for an ice-core drilling company in the South Pole. You lucky devil, Bruce!
Poor Carol Gieg is healing from a refracture of her pelvis out in San Francisco, while woring as a volunteer teacher's aide at a local junior high school.. Carol was in Alaska this past summer setting up day camps in the isolated villages of the southeast. She hopes to recuperate in time to start on her volunteer teaching program in Northern Ireland. Best of luck, Carol.
Austin Lyons, Walter Elliot, and Tom Ryan are all doing well at U.Va. Law School, and the same can be said for Jon Zenner, who is attending Harvard Business School.
And before my hand cramps to the point where I can't hold my own beer bottle, I will end by mentioning that Ed Jaicks is working in the nickel mines high above the Oregon rain clouds, and, finally, that George Stone is sitting on a deferred admission to Columbia Business School and managing an insurance agency/brokerage firm. He is also taking lessons for his penmanship, which is so bad that I could only read half of his very thoughtful letter about fellow '79s.
Until we meet again, Pete.
