Just to prove that marriage isn't the only way to win recognition in this MAGAZINE, and thus to save those of you who are (perhaps about to take that step so that your name may appear on these pages, we'll start this year's final opus with a tribute to those who have succeeded in areas non-matrimonial. A couple of issues ago we mentioned that Bob Bagdasarian had had an article published in the Massachusetts Law Review. "Bags" continues to be successful in his literary endeavors as he was recently appointed editor-in-chief of the Boston University Law Review. John Stonehill also deserves our congratulations for his progress in the architectural field of study. John was recently granted a fellowship in architecture for advanced study in the American Academy in Rome. Since only twelve such fellowships are awarded in the fields of painting, architecture, musical composition and classical studies, this is certainly a noteworthy accomplishment.

Dick Batchelder has been named head basketball and baseball coach and coordinator of athletics at Rockport High School in Gloucester, Mass. "Batch" has been teaching and coaching at Rockport since graduation, and was assistant to the principal prior to this coaching assignment. Dick will continue to teach history in addition to his athletic duties.

Jay Beneson is now employed by Furst, Furst, and Feldman, a New Jersey law firm. Jay, originally an assistant to the House Counsel for Webb and Knapp, completed law school in less than the required three years by attending night school, and has successfully passed the New York Bar exam. Jay briefly returned to Webb and Knapp as an attorney, and remained with them until last January when he joined the New Jersey law firm. Jay is preparing for the New Jersey Bar exam at present, and has settled in West Orange, N. J., with his wife Toby, and "Number One Son," Steven Paul.

Bill Lenderking has probably departed the ZI (Zone of the Interior) for Mr. Castro's country as of this date. Bill will spend a year or so in Havana de Cuba working with the USIS (United States Information Service) in the American Embassy there. Bill has spent eighteen months with the New York Times and states that "when not weighted down with menial chores, I managed to slip an occasional editorial, church sermon, and Topic of the Times into those august pages." Bill says that Don Kurth is now attending George Washington Law School at night, and working in a law office by day.

That's about it for this year. Let's remember to support Dartmouth in the Capital Gifts Fund Drive with a realistic gift. Remember, you're giving for the next three years, and you have the opportunity to 'stretch" your pledge out over up to thirty months. This is no time for a "token" gift - for the future of Dartmouth as a great educational institution depends on her imminent expansion, and this expansion, in turn, on US. So, dig deep, brothers, and let's help Swifty put the Class of '55 on top of our contemporaries. So long for another summer - best wishes to all of you and your families.
