The '41 executive committee did one other piece of business at the January meeting that I didn't report last month, not having been sure that all concerned had been personally notified at that time. Six new members were added to the committee: Gus Broberg, Bill Clark, NickCarter, Tinner Gordon, Hugh Kenworthy, and Bob Tepper. A welcome to one and all.

On February 19, the Wall Street Journal blished an interview with Don Samuel, hailing Don's fabulous success as a founder and, for 20 years, president of Energy Fund Inc. On February 20, Don died suddenly, I believe in New York City, where he both lived and worked. I'll have an obituary for you in the May or June issue

On his class-dues notice, Les Davis scribbled, "No news from New Mexico." Happens I know otherwise. An old friend who is now a California clergyman wrote me on a Christmas card: "I performed the wedding service for the son and new daughter-in-law of your classmate Les Davis last summer in Santa Barbara. It was a lovely event and the Davises Sr. are lovely people." Which son that was, I can't say the Davis family is not only lovely but large.

Botanist Bob Thorne filed his annual travel report, and it was a quiet year for a change expeditions to the Mojave Desert and various southern California locations, plus one trip to Oklahoma. Bob was hoping to get east this June, though, perhaps with a lecture at Dartmouth on his schedule. "Did entertain a delegation from the People's Republic of China here at Rancho Santa Ana Garden. Found them very friendly people."

A note in December from Don and Pat Stillman said they were off to their place in Florida for a couple weeks of R&R, then back to New Canaan for Christmas. "Had eye surgery recently for a torn retina,"' Don wrote. "Glad to report all is well, but can't be very strenuous for a while."

In August, Bob Miner acquired a second grandchild and first grandson. "Life in New Hampshire is great. We've been spending most of our time getting wood together for the stove to save oil."

"Nancy and Marston Gibbs and we went to Hanover, via a week at Cape Cod, to see the Princeton game," reported" Jim Morgan. "Chatted with Ed and Beth Aker at the old '41 parking area next to Leverone, but '41s were very scarce, even in the stands."

Notes on the retirement situation: Jack Bowe says he "bought some property on Seabrook Island, S.C., and has plans underway. Expect to leave the state of New Jersey in January 1981, and, if all goes well, we will be here out side of Charleston in late 1981 or early 1982." Already established in South Carolina is Ed Fell, who says there are "all sorts of Dartmouth retirees here at Hilton Head." Ed's principal occupation appears to be golf he admitted to winning a 50-team tournament with Art Moutrey '40 as his partner.
