Greetings and salutations. By now those of you who ski will have broken out the boards in preparation for what we hope will be a memorable snow season. Last month in Vermont there was already snow in the mountains.
For a while it appeared that the only news would be from that globe trotter, humorist, and observer of the times, Fabian Ropogol. Fabian wrote to say that he has not married his HTH, still knows where his blue jeans are, and has not the slightest intention of going back to school. After a stint of working on the Alaska pipeline and seeing all the beer commercials they were making, he wrote to Mickey Mantle and Tommy Lasorda to ask how he could break into the game. Fabian had some flannel shirts and the afore-mentioned blue jeans, and his time at Dartmouth had given him some useful experience in the care and consumption of beer. He tried Miller Lite, but he finally had a crisis of conscience because, as he said, "A Dartmouth guy just shouldn't be pushing something called 'Lite Beer.' " So he finally learned how to drive a logging truck, build ships, and make coil springs, and the next time you see an ad for that old stand-by, Budweiser, Fabian may be the guy going for all that gusto.
In addition to the communication from Fabian, I also received, from Greg Yadley, a letter with about 15 of your notes attached to the checks for the class dues. Greg asks that those of you who may still be going through your crisis of conscience regarding class dues please buck up and send those checks to his new address, which is: 3309 North San Miguel, Tampa, Fla. 33609.
Roger Ekirch has recently been awarded a Mellon Research Fellowship at Cambridge University for this academic year. He says that he will be resident at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, and he welcomes any '72s who may find themselves in the area.
Richard Greenberg and his wife Marianne report that they are the proud parents of a sixmonth-old son, Matthew, and the somewhat breathless holders of a three-month-old mortgage by the name of Monstro. Richard is a clinical assistant professor in the division of cardiology at Thomas Jefferson Medical College.
John Musser, wife Camille, and daughter Amber have been living in France since January 1981. John is managing Castle and Cooke s Mediterranean-area fresh fruit sales, mainly bananas, out of Paris. John recently saw Hill Blackett in San Francisco;Hill is an attorney with Murphy, Weir & Butler. John-has also talked with Tom Stebe in Boston, where Tom is building solar houses, and with Ragnvald Bratz in Oslo, Norway, where he is managing export sales for Groud Jernvoerefabrik. Fabian had also dropped by to see John for a few days between beer commercials, and the two of them and John Low '73 engaged in a valiant but futile attempt to lower French exports of wine and cheese by dramatically increasing domestic consumption. On that note I bid you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
