Every once in a while, your faithful scribe likes to sit back and let his loyal readers do his job for him. This is one of those times. I recently received a card from Steve Whitely in Alexandria, Va. (He's in Virginia, not me.) Here's what Steve had to say . . .
"Two times in the past month, two good friends and freshmen pals had reason to look me up. I've kept in touch over the years yet have rarely seen their 'stories' in the newsletter or class letters. No one's to blame. Their friends just don't tell on them.
"W. Dickson Cunningham called me when he was in town for an International Geological Conference (chaired by Professor Charles Drake of the College). Dickson is at the University of Texas working on his Ph.D. in geology. His dissertation focuses on the barren, remote area of Tiera del Fuego. Field work is under the harshest conditions and access is by Zodiac rubber rafts! He is looking at the jumbled tectonics of southern South America. His base of operations is out of the southern-most village in the world. Dickson is still looking for Ms. Right and falling in love with every girl he meets.
"Robert 'Rob' Ford called me late one night to announce his engagement (!) to a young woman named Paige. Perhaps someone else will write with the last name. Rob spent a number of years after graduation teaching Spanish and French and coaching football and lax at Proctor Academy. He ran Proctor's version of L.S.A. in Madrid for two years. After Proctor, Rob entered the Fletcher School and graduated in 1989 with a master's in law and diplomacy. He'll be based in Boston this fall, worlting for an international non-profit venture capital firm (oxymoronic?). Rob's nuptials are planned for September 1990.
"I remain in Alexandria, working as director of admissions and science teacher at Congressional School (pre-K-Bth). Finally I defended and wrapped up my thesis (M.S.geology) at the University of New Mexico in 1989. Sharon (wife) and I are expecting the first bambino/a in late September!
"Almost forgot. Lee Sedberry is in Albuquerque, where, after working in commercial real estate for Coldwell Banker, he founded his own firm, Sedberry International!"
My deepest thanks to Steve for very capably filling my space and a reminder toyou football fans not to miss the Fifth of Tailgate coming soon to a parking lot near you.
