Back in November there was a big gathering at Princeton. Even though we lost the game, it sure sounds like we won the party afterwards at Kester and Debbe Pierson's house. Among those present were Gib Warren, Don Williams, Bob and Ann Simpson, John and Elena Kingsland, Dick Dunham, Norm Carpenter, Tom and Arlene Bloomer, Don Smith, Dave and Peggy Cost, Dick Lena, Dick and Joan Greene, Bill King, Malcolm Moss, Werner Graeve, Bob and Linda Douglass, Jack and Charlotte Avril, Fred Whittemore, Fran and Ellen L'Esperance, Bill and Janet Dolan, Bob and Gail Malin, Charlie and Jackie Fleet, Gus and Mabel Allen, and Chuck Reilly.
Some news gathered from the crowd: GibWarren now lives in Rumson, N.J., having moved there from Chicago. Tom and Arlene had a "late bloomer" in August; name, Tom Jr. Kester Pierson's daughter Fredrika graduated from the College in June and now works for the Campaign for Dartmouth; she is a third-generation Pierson. Brock Brower, who lives in Princeton, was out of town. He has been traveling around the world on a project for the Ford Foundation and also writing a book about the project.
Also back in November, the Alumni Fund had its wrap-up meeting. Dick Joslin was there to receive the Joshua A. Davis Trophy for the "largest dollar improvement in a non-reunion year." The College again extended thanks to everyone in our class who helped.
Aaron Epstein received the Washington's Correspondents Award for his reporting and interpretation of the events that have directly concerned Philadelphia for the last three years. Aaron has reported for the Inquirer from the Washington bureau of Knight-Ridder newspapers.
During the intense negotiations between the banks and the government just prior to the release of the hostages, Bobby Douglass was the representative for Chase Manhatten. When it is appropriate 1 am sure the full details will be told. That should be some story.
Dave Horlacher spent three weeks in Cairo where he was part of a United Nation's mission to assess Egypt's needs for assistance in the field of population. Dave had an opportunity to meet Mrs. Sadat and says she is quite a human being.
Ray Lawrence's daughter Libby is a sophomore. She lettered in women's swimming and was on the crew and plays in the Big Green Marching Band. Over the holidays, she spoke to the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Cleveland about the importance of athletics in education. It was a great talk; Ray was all smiles.
Jan Hibson wrote that Ted went back to the books and earned his M.B.A. from Boston University last spring. She thinks he felt he had to keep one step ahead of their three sons who are all in College.
John Dickason wrote that last June DickCollins was selected the National High School Track Coach of the Year by the National Association of High School Coaches. Dick had previously been selected New England Track Coach of the Year. As you know, Dick has coached track and football and taught history at Andover, Mass., High School ever since he got out of the Marine Corps in the late fifties. He has won several state championships and is highly regarded. By the way, John just graduated from the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. He is still executive director of the Illinois State Bar Association which has 24,000 members.
According to Time magazine, all is not well in Paradise. Hawaii's business has been severely hurt by rising air fares, crime, and filth. Don Bremmer is executive vice president of the Waikiki Improvement Association which is trying to turn things around. If they don't, Hawaii will be in big trouble.
George Krall has been named general manager of the Aircraft Engine Manufacturing Division for General Electric. Headquarters are in Cincinnati. He will have responsibility for the work of about 16,000 employees located at nine different manufacturing locations. George has been with G.E. for 20 years, 17 of which have been in the aircraft engine business.
