Greetings people. I am back with the news. Let me dispense with the lesser news first. Ronald Reagan was elected president. His vice president is George Ba-Ba-Buush! I am sure you men out there are elated at hearing the news. Now for the more important news items: John D. Maine writes, "Debbie and I are still living in Philadelphia, although we did escape for two years to San Francisco. I manage the Philadelphia office of the investment firm of Smith Barney and Cos. Debbie's just received her master's degree from Penn. in psychology (what else) and is now the guidance counselor at a local high school. Our daughter Laura is in the 11th grade at Abington Friends School. However, now for the bad news. Our son Jordie, who spent his first three years sleeping through the music of rock bands on the second floor of Alpha Theta, is going to Princeton. I am investigating the legal process involved in disowning him. To make matters worse, he is a linebacker on the football team and should see action in the Dartmouth-Princeton game. Talk about mixed loyalties. Aside from that, all is well."

Thanks, John, for the note. By the way, do you remember pinning me in approximately 47 seconds in an inter-fraternity wrestling match between Alpha Theta and Phi Delt? The reason it took 47 seconds was, that is how long it took you to catch me on that little wrestling mat.

Karl Winkler writes, "I missed the reunion because we were in Ireland on vacation. I'm sorry we weren't at the reunion after reading the reports. After being in one of the biggest law firms in Rockford, 111., I resigned my partnership and am now a sole practitioner specializing in civil trial work (i.e. no divorces and no criminal work). In a limited way, this satisfies my life-long urge to be playwrite, director, and producer (as well as a principal actor). The insecurity can be excruciating at times, but.the freedom and responsibility are benefits everyone needs. I just returned from two weeks sailing and scuba diving in Belige. Immediately thereafter, I went to total absorption and tension by trying a jury case for a week and a half. At this 'passage' in my life, I have opted for enjoyment and self-realization rather than total absorption in work may the mistress not get too jealous." (I opted for enjoyment and self-realization once, but I came to the realization that enjoyment comes from money which can only be accumulated thru total absorption in work. How I envy your attitude and spirit.)

Randy Stayin is still practicing law in Washington, D.C., as a partner in Taft, Stellinens, and Hollister. Former Senator Taft and Randy opened a Washington office for the Cincinnati-based Taft firm. Randy had dinner with Pete Koenig in Trenton, N.J., last month. He says Pete has become a successful lawyer as well as a first-rate political strategist. He engineered the campaign of the new county executive in Trenton. Pete seems to be enjoying life in the political arena. (You all remember Pistol Pete Koenig; he was the only guy at Sigma Nu who could out talk Herb McCord. Between the two, they had a line of baloney a mile wide.)

Pete Steck said he saw many of the "Thumpty-Dumps" at the Princeton game (Fan, Mess, Owl '63, Mattie Lawless 63, etc., etc.). All were running amok.

Barry Pressman writes to say he is sorry he missed reunion but he was busy with the following events occurring this year: elected treasurer of the American Society of Neuroradiology; elected to board of directors of his local Professional Standards Review Organization (PSRO); and appointed chairman, Department of Radiology, Brotman Medical Center, Culver City, Calif. "My wife Beth and I have two beautiful, super daughters who are seven and ten years old and faring well in school. We live in Pacific Palisades, Calif., one and a half blocks from Ronald Reagan. When he is at home, the helicopters and police motorcycles are almost deafening. Hope to get to Alumni College this coming summer." If Barry keeps up with these accomplishments, he will lead more organizations than B. J. Batchelder. God forbid?

I talked to Perry Butler last month and he told me that he and his wife Jo had a baby girl, Margaret Louise, on July 24, 1980. Penguin says he is running six to seven miles a day and has slimmed down to 155 lbs. He called to try to interest me in the mini-reunion that was held in New York on December 6-7, 1980, with Bradand Barbara Evans orchestrating the activities. There were a cast of thousands there. Clint (Earl the Earthquake) Roenisch came in from Calgary, Alberta, where he has been pretty much incommunicado for umpteen years. Ehney and Pat Camp came along with Bob andMargo Freeman. Jay (Fan) and Amy Reagan attended along with Bill Behrenberg, Herb andJudy McCord, and Chip Waite. It was a gala weekend with this motley entourage celebrating at Club 21 on Friday night, at the Evans' on Saturday, and at Mel Freeman's on Sunday. I hope we'll all occasionally think about how unique and valuable our Dartmouth experience must have been to motivate its alumni to go to such great lengths to enjoy major and mini reunions. Despite all the bitching about Dart- mouth, Dartmouth people like to be with Dart- mouth people.
