My apologies to Mike Gorton for having left out of previous columns mention of the . well deserved awards he hauled down last year for the exemplary job he did as head of our reunion-giving campaign. He won the Joshua A. Davis Trophy for the largest dollar improvement in a reunion year as well as the Class of 1938 Award for achieving the largest dollar total in a reunion year. Congratulations to Mike, and to the many who assisted him, especially his secretary.

For you who are going through the lateforties syndrome and perhaps looking for a change of scenery, the following should prove helpful. Bob Ankerson has been appointed senior vice president at Billington, Fox & Ellis, Inc., New York City. Bob moved up from general manager of this firm which is the leading domestic and international executive search consulting organization.

Alternatively, you might want to check with Dave Cudlip who has joined Ward Howell : International, Inc., one of the oldest and largest executive search firms. As a partner of this company, he will be headquartered in the firm's Los Angeles office. Prior to this move, Dave served as president of Pathfinder Corporation, a company he founded in Studio City, Calif., in 1969.

While in the corporate frame of mind, when you read about the recent transfer of power at G.A.F. Corporation how many of you realized that the new president, Jay R. Olson, was our own? This particular promotion received a great deal of publicity as G.A.F. is in the midst of a restructuring program and its former president of only five months resigned, allowing Jay to move up. All of us, I am sure, wish him the best of luck in this challenging position.

And talking about challenging positions, the notorious Mary Cunningham, formerly of Bendix, has now accepted a vice presidential position with Seagrams in New York. Mary, of course, was not in our class but Bill Wilbur was, and as the head of one of the Seagrams operations, we expect he'll keep us posted.

If you were a member of an R.O.T.C. group as an undergraduate and carried the program through to become a professional military man, you could be retired now with the equivalent rank of an Air Force colonel. Take the case of Jim Waldman who I marched with in the A.F.R.O.T.C. on the Hanover plain for four years. He retired with that lofty rank last May and is living out in California playing lots of tennis because "the skiing has been almost nonexistent." His daughter Patty is in the Dartmouth class of '85. In a typical comment from alumni of our vintage, Jim states: "I'm still not certain that women should be at the College, but since that battle is over, I am delighted to see my daughter benefit from the opportunities that Dartmouth offers."

And Bob Leopold, former Navy captain who retired to the good life in the city by the bay last year. Actually, Bob's taking a busman's holiday. Having received his Coast Guard master's license he's sailing with the Merchant Marine. When on land, Bob's address is 2695 Greenwich, #101, San Francisco, Calif. 94123.

You have to give some sort of award to Dick Targett who has gone to the trouble of sending the names and current status of all seven of his children. They range from - get this kindergarten age to a registered nurse who is married and living in Nairobi, Kenya. One is in the class of '84 and Dick comments, "my wife is tolerant and understanding." Understated!

Contrast this with John Cavanagh who was married last June and obviously decided that the reunion was no place to spend his honeymoon. Let the record show, however, that John boasts of being an instant father five times and a grandfather twice. A class record? The Cavanagh's will grace our 30th reunion and if their record each year rivals their amazing first, they will need a bus to bring the clan up.

Although it's only spring, start planning to attend our fall reunion which coincides with the Cornell game next October. In the meantime, dust off the postal response cards sent to you by Tom Carlsen and let us know what's happening.
