News in the form of corporate press announcements arrived in the box this month. Connecticut Life Insurance Company sends word that Glenn Burdick has been appointed assistant investment officer, planning and support department, in investment operations at Connecticut General. Glenn's interpretation of this title: "I manage commercial properties!" He has been with the company since receiving his M.B.A. from Northwestern University in 1976. Glenn also spends some time on community affairs, most notably as a member of Simsbury (Conn.) Junior Achievement.
Jim Regan was also featured in a corporate news release from his new employer, F.M.C. Corporation. Jim has been named as manager of international affairs, and his responsibilities include acting as liaison with Federal agencies having trade-related functions and with the international community in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining F.M.C., he had been director of international organizations services at International Business-Government Counsellors, Inc.
Alan Reynard is yet another of '74's successful young business types. The Travelers Insurance Companies promoted A1 to assistant actuary in the casualty-property commercial lines department at their offices in Hartford. He has been with The Travelers since 1977 and is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the Actuaries Club of Hartford. Congratulations, Alan.
Brace Bilger sends word of his marriage to Carole Jo Samuels. (Bradford and Boston University) last June. They are now living in Houston, Tex., where Bruce is an associate in the law firm of Vinson & Elkins and Carole is finishing the last semester of law school. Other classmates witnessing the nuptials were KenCanfield, Tom Eggleston, and Pat Stone. The class extends its heartiest Congrats a bit belatedly to the newly weds!
Working an Alumni Fund telethon in February produced some very heartening results for the Fund and a number of pages of notes for this column. John Barbor continues to practice law in Indiana, Pa., and works in amateur theater in his spare time. John reports that recently his group has performed "a little Shakespeare and Galdoni," and that after years of being stuck playing character roles he fears "being typecast as a romantic lead." It's probably due to that new beard John is sporting! He is also the new owner of a condominium. John reports seeing Pete '75 at Pete's wedding and wonders, "Whatever happened to Tom Berdeja?"
Jan Kublick is still practicing law in Syracuse, N.Y., where some of his deals involve Cliff Ennico '75. Jan continues to reside in Tully, but has left the Blue Hole and has moved closer to the center of town. His wife Susan is a graduate student in photography at Syracuse University. Jan hears from Kevin Fitzgerald and his wife Chris. Kevin is temporarily living in Washington, D.C., practicing law in the new D.C. office of Foley, Hoag & Eliot, a Boston firm. Jan also reports that the ever-elusive BillBeck is in a training program with G.T.E. which will take him all over the map. Bill, if you do happen to read this, let us know where you are!
Frank and Catharine Cole are new parents as of February with the addition of a son, Brian. Frank is living near Allentown, Pa., but will be moving to the Keene, N.H., area when he joins the Keene Clinic in family practice in July. Bruce Cooper will also be returning to the north country soon. Upon completion of his residency in internal medicine in Cooperstown, N.Y., Bruce plans to spend two years completing a fellowship in endocrinology at the Mary Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover. That kind of good fortune could make many a classmate turn Green with envy!
Marc Melamed has finished his residency at Montefiore Hospital in N.Y.C. and is opening a practice in internal medicine. Marc reports that he is married and is Daddy to two girls, one a toddler of three and the other seven months.
The peripatetic Mark Herko has recently returned to New York City and reports on his many travels and academic pursuits. After Dartmouth, Mark completed a master's degree in drama at the University of Virginia, traveled to Bourges, France, as the assistant teacher with a Dartmouth Language Study Abroad program in 1976, and taught various subjects, including drama and English, at Vermont Academy for two years. He also worked for a period of time for N.B.C. doing program research. For the last two years, Mark has been attending the University of Denver, working towards a Ph.D. in drama. During this period in Colorado, Mark also found time to work for the Western States Arts Foundation and directed eight count 'em, eight shows. Mark is living in the Village, where he plans to complete his dissertation and look for work in the theater.
