Ten hardy '51ers braved the 18-below evening to attend Pete Henderson's minireunion in Winnetka for food, drink, companionship, and good conversation.

Attending were Pete and Jean Henderson, Fred and Jane Chandler, Reed and Mary Badgley, Jim and Elaine Bovaird, Dave King, and Dave Wiggins.

Reed, vice president of Smith Barney and Harris Upham, writes as follows: "Over the Christmas holidays my wife Mary and I and our three children Forrest (11), Elizabeth (12), and Anne (16) joined Vin Marriott and his family for a week of skiing at Smugglers' Notch in Vermont. Vin has two boys at Dartmouth Mike a sophomore and Chris who will be graduating this June. Vin is vice president, international, of Continental Cal, a packaging unit of Continental Group. It's a perpetual mini-reunion in Winnetka, what with Jim Bo- vaird, Fred Chandler, Dave Hilton, and Pete Henderson all living within a mile or so radius of the Badgleys."

Pete, executive director of Chicago United, writes as follows: "I'm embarked on a fourth career (Inland Steel 1954-1961, post-navy; Booz Allen and Hamilton 1961-1971; Northwestern University 1971-1981), this one as executive director of Chicago United. C.U. is made up of 25 heads of the major Chicagobased businesses (Sears, Standard Oil, Inland, Beatrice Foods, Arthur Anderson, etc.) and 25 minority leaders. Our charter is to bring to bear the talents, resources, idea power, and clout of that group on urban, human service, and racial problems in Chicago specifically, we are working in six areas: schools, jobs, housing, economic development, justice and public safety, and private/public partnerships.

"It's an especially exciting time for business leadership to be addressing those issues, given the public sector cutbacks. In its ten-year existence, C.U. has made some important typically low profile - contributions to resolving these very complex urban issues and my guess is that we are well positioned to do even more in the years ahead.

"Our kids are well scattered Tim (Yale '77) is in first year orthopedic surgery residency; Stephanie (Arizona State '80) modeling in Chicago; Scott (Boston U. '81) finishing up next month; John (Dartmouth '82); Charley (Colgate '83) currently on leave as a PR staffer with the Detroit Pistons; and Guy and Martha (high school senior and junior respectively). "A local bulletin: 'An evening of magic with Reed Badgley' went for $150 at a Winnetka Community House benefit auction the other day. Reed is a master card trick artist."

More in the next issues on Reed Badgley's developing skill and successes as a performer and impresario.

Jim Bovaird writes that he had lunch with Charles Breed and has the latest scoop for us: "Charlie just took job as director of development, Harvard Business School, really a feather in his hat! Will mean living in Boston during week and commuting to Hanover home on weekends. That's exciting news."

Fred Chandler, now vice president of the fastener group of Allied Products Corporation writes that he joined Allied Products last October after a couple of years with a small fastener company in Chicago. "It's hard to get away from the nuts, bolts, and screws after 30 years in the business, and this is a great opportunity with safer people. Jane and I keep busy with golf, tennis, and paddle tennis and enjoy the '51ers in the area. Our next big event is in September when daughter Cathy will be married. Our son John and wife are in Denver and we still have two daughters in school, one going for a Ph.D. and the other having fun at Colby in Maine."

Dave King offered to have the next '51 minireunion at his summer home in Lake Geneva. Wise., during the summer and open it up to all '51ers in the area ... so suit up, everyone!
