Sorry to have produced a blank for the November issue, but it was one of those total lapses due to a heavier travel schedule than usual and the lack of enough hours in the day to meet all the deadlines not to mention the usual lack of news from out in the field. Anyway, here goes . . .
William C. Langley, who has been with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in New York since 1961, was recently named executive vice president. Elliot G. Carr has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings' Bank in Harwich, Mass. Martin A. Lower and an associate recently purchased one of the two textile operations sold by Tyco Labs. They have created a new corporation, Ludlow Textiles, in Ludlow, Mass., of which Marty is president. Rick Hite, who is a professor of theater/communications at Virginia Wesleyan, was accepted this past summer for a seminar sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities on the Indiana University campus. The seminar, entitled "Playwriting, Performance, and Politics," was a study of the ways literature and theater combine to create effective political statements. Rick and his wife Barbara, a playwright, are both active in their local theater scene.
The August 1983 issue of Gentlemen'sQuarterly contained a most informative article by David Harrison on the refreshing subject of Whitewater, entitled "Rapids Transit." Dave, who is a banker in Seattle, has been organizing and participating in Alaskan and Canadian Arctic canoe expeditions for 20 years. He's written numerous articles, as well as the books Canoeing and, along with his wife Judy, Canoe Tripping With Kids.
Also appearing most impressively in print in the past few months was Edward W. Daumit, who was the subject of a feature article in the home section of the Los Angeles SundayTimes. Ed is the proprietor of the Redwater Cafe in Waimea, Hawaii, where he is chef and general all-around master. This is a new venture for Ed, who is still a partner in the real estate development firm of Wela Kahao Corporation, currently working on a condominium project in Kamuela. Thomas B. McBurney was recently named group vice president, frozen and refrigerated businesses, of the Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis. John Benson has joined Spaulding and Slye in Boston, a full-service real estate development, brokerage, construction, and property management firm, where he is senior vice president responsible for regional office operations.
Bruce H. Hasenkamp has joined the Hannaford Company Inc., a public relations/public affairs firm, as vice president and manager of its San Francisco office. Wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season!
