" '46's IN THE NEWS"

Jim Lynch, sales representative for the AMC Wholesale Corporation, has recently been named manager of the parent company's L. A. office, effective July 1, 1962. Jim has been with AMC (department store merchandisers) since 1948, immediately after graduating from college. Beginning in the men's shoe department, he was later named a buyer, and in 1957 was promoted to his present post where he has responsibilities of representing the wholesale corporation in the areas of women's ready-to-ear, infants' and children's and men's and boys' wear. Congrats Jim! - Ralph Chadbourne was recently promoted to major in Uncle Sam's Army down at Ft. Monroe, Va. Chad is Chief of the Programs and Budget Board, Headquarters, United States Continental Army Command's Quartermaster Section. The primary job of this Army group is of exercising Command Supervision over the six U.S. Continental Armies and the Military District of Washington. Its primary mission is the ground defense of the U.S., including Army-wide training and combat development activities. Chad served an enlistment in the Marine Corps before transferring to the U.S. Army in 1951 and did a stint as an assistant cashier with the National Bank of Norway, Me. He and his wife Carol and three children live in Hampton, Va. - Pete Millard was the Milford, Connecticut's Independent Party candidate for Board of Education last November, although we can't tell you how he fared. Pete, as some of you know, is assistant professor of architectural design at Yale, and is a partner with Earl P. Carlin Architects in New Haven. He's a member of the Milford Citizens' Committee on Education, and is presently serving as vice-president of that group. Pete and wife (the former Margaret Leathers) and their two children live at 560 Anderson Avenue, Woodmont, Conn. - Old Phi Gam JimmyShute has been appointed assistant manager of sales for Republic Steel Corporation's Wire Division in Chicago. Jimmy has been with Republic's sales organization since '47 and started as a clerk in the Boston sales office. Later he was assigned to the Company's sales training program and hence was transferred to the St. Louis sales office where he has been since December 1953. Jim and family are now in the process of moving from their home in Kirkwood, Mo., to the Windy City - Dr. Rog Lochhead, a member of the medical staff at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, N. J., recently spoke to a meeting of volunteer ambulance units in Montclair. Rog lectured to the group using a film on the procedure to be used in closed chest resuscitation. As we have reported in other issues, Rog has had very fine cardiology and internal medicine training, and has been on the staff at Mountainside since 1955. Among other things he is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, a member of the American Heart Association and has had articles published in professional journals - BillDavidson has left my company, New England Life, where he had been District Group Manager in Chicago to go to New York. Bill called me the other day and told me about his new deal and it sounds like a very fine one. He is the new New York City area Group Manager for Provident Mutual Life and will run a sizable group office working with the Metropolitan area General Agencies of Provident Mutual. He will office at 99 Park Avenue and he and Phoebe and their fine family are in the process of moving from Highland Park, Ill., to 20 South Murray Avenue in Ridgewood, N. J. Bill said that he had run into Ken Hurd recently - Ken has recently been transferred to Chicago as that area's manager for Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborn - Ken has been with BBD&O for some time and has moved up the ladder fast. Congrats and good luck to both Sigma Chis Bill and Ken - Speaking of Sigs, my good friend, barrister Dick Scharrer, continues to do a fine job for the College in his duties as Interviewing Chairman for the Dartmouth Alumni Association here in Dayton.
