"A big problem all Dartmouth students face is distinguishing good advice from bad."
Rich Joseph, associate professor of government and African and Afro American studies, in Vox of Dartmouth before Freshman week in September.
Some good advice from the classmates who gathered at Pierce's Lodge in October is to be at next fall's pre-reunion get-together on October 19-21 the Harvard game weekend in Hanover. Those who have attended these annual mini-reunions have enjoyed the chance to relax with family and friends amid the splendor of autumn in New Hampshire. Come join us for the next one.
The class was represented by a solid core of 36 adults and 22 offspring at the mini-reunion this fall. A number of repeat attendees were joined by some new faces, and a good time was had by all. Friendships new and renewed, a class meeting to begin thinking about the 20th reunion coming up in June 1985, a football game on a warm fall afternoon, and the hospitality of innkeepers extaordinaire Reg and Nancy Pierce thesewere some of the benefits of attending our mini-reunion. Next year we'll even win the football game!
Attendees included Tom and Jane Hanson, Guilford, Conn.; Roger and Nancy Hansen, Keene, N.H.; Ted and Nancy Bracken, Washington, D.C.; Dan and Carmen Corbett, Miami, Fla.; Tim and Caroll McLaughlin, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Ken and Linnie McGruther, Newport, R. 1., on the way to Yokosuka, Japan; Gary and Stephanie Bucher, Houston, Tex.; Ted and Ann Atkinson, Fairfield, Conn.; Jack and Sue Heidbrink, Burlington, Mass.; Jock Hosmer, Marblehead, Mass.; Larry Duffy, Cambridge, Mass.; John andJune Richardson, North Plainfield, N.J.; Peteand Cherry Baumbusch, McLean, Va.; CarlBoe and Mimi Reusch, New York, N.Y.; BillWebster, Wilton, Conn.; Rich and JenniferJoseph, Hanover, N.H.; Jim and MarthaGriffiths, Lebanon, N.H.; Frank Heston, Florence, Mass.; Dave and Marjorie Piersall, Springfield, Vt.; and, last, but hopefully not least, Bob and Sharon Blake. If I've missed anyone, please tell me so I can set the record straight. Pete Baumbusch and Tim McLaughlin took pictures of the group and Larry Duffy compared us with the Aegis (favorably, he says!).
Now for some individual news notes which came out of the weekend:
Dan Corbett practices law in Miami with the firm of Blank, Rome, Comisky and McCauley. He and Carmen would be delighted to see any snowbirds.
Jim Griffiths has an offer for anyone who wants to leave the corporate rat race. For a mere $850,000 he would be willing to put you into the ski area operating business! He currently owns and operates Whaleback, "New England's most accessible ski area," immediately adjacent to 1-89 in a bucolic setting inbeautiful New Hampshire just south of Hanover. As he approaches his 40th, he wants to try some other things.
Ken McGruther and family are now in Yokosuka, Japan, where Ken took over as comanding officer of USS Knox (FF-1052) on Thanksgiving Day. They expect to be in Japan for about 28 months truly an exciting opportunity.
Jack Heidbrink, our sterling newsletter editor, teaches in the social studies department at Lexington, Mass., High School. He teaches political philosophy, world civilization, and "Cowboys and Indians a la Foley," to 129 students in five classes in the tenth to 12th grades. With all the details he puts in the newsletter he must have his students doing research full time.
Best wishes for the happiest of holidays and may your New Year be a bright one! Resolve to send news of yourself, your family, your cat, dog, goldfish, etc. Note that I have begun using my home address at the beginning of each column: With my travel sched- ule, this should enable me to be more responsive to my mail, deadlines, etc. 'Nuff for now keep the faith!
