Greetings from New Jersey!

At this early date I am predicting Dartmouth won the Ivy League football championship by squeaking out a 24-19 win over Penn in the final two minutes of the game played in Philadelphia on November 19. Was I right?

This month, I am happy to report news from classmates who are writing us for the first time. Take Jim Sutherland, for example. He entered the Peace Corps after graduation and spent the next two years in Peru. Wanting to see more of the world, he joined the Army and was sent to Vietnam. After his discharge, Jim went to Washington as a legislative assistant to New Hampshire Congressman James Cleveland. Then, in 1973, he joined Chase Manhattan Bank and, after completing the bank's credit training program, was assigned to Venezuela to take advantage of his previous South American experience. While there he took up scuba diving, which provided the chance to meet a New Zealander, Broniven, whom he married. Love at first dive. About two years ago, in February 1982, Jim was assigned to Asuncion, Paraguay, where he is now manager of credit and marketing for the Chase Manhattan branch. Jim writes that Bob Benoit '6B is also associated with the bank as country manager. If anyone is headed south and wants to drop in for a swim, Jim, Broniven, and daughters Tui, five, and Kari, three, have plenty of room!

Coincidentally, I also received a note from Julio Basualdo, who also works in Asuncion, Paraguay, but for the Agency for International Development. He and Jim are talking about organizing the first Dartmouth Club in Paraguay. How do you say "Wah-Hoo-Wah" in Spanish?

Two years ago, you may recall, we left DickJones at the other end of the hemisphere, stationed with the Coast Guard in Kodiak, Alaska. Dick, likewise, invited any classmates dropping through the area to visit him. I suspect he has had few callers. But the Coast Guard has solved that dilemma for Dick. Last summer, having done his pennance, he was promoted to commander and was transferred to Atlantic Beach, N.C., where he took command of the cutter Chilula. Action was soon at hand. Dick writes he participated in the seizure of a freighter which was importing marijuana. Caught them stone cold.

Walt Stern wrote a line and it was good to hear from him. He is living in San Mateo, Calif., has been married for 15 years, and has two sons Josh, 13, and Ben, who is ten. Walt is an associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco, and is involved mainly in retinal eitreous surgery,of the eye. He also finds time to do teaching research and some lecturing, and he has developed an interest in windsurfing, skiing, and playing tennis. It sounds like the California life-style is alive and well.

Walter Harrison is living on the other side of the continent in West Peabody, Mass., where he is chief of pediatrics at Lynn Hospi- tal. Walter is active in several professional groups, serving as chairman of the Medicaid Committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics' Massachusetts chapter and on the Massachusetts Medical Society. In addition, he is also executive officer of the Bay State Health Care and is ritual committee chairman of his local temple. Walter and Linda have been married for 15 years and have three children Lisa, 13, Rachel, 11, and Daniel, seven.

Now, as the fellow on the television used to say, "Keep those cards and letters coming on in, boys and girls! And until next time, good luck and Merry Christmas."
