Dartmouth Signs $2 million Computer Contract
DECEMBER 1983

The College has signed a $2 million plus contract with Apple Computers Inc. as part of an overall plan to enable all incoming freshmen to acquire a personal computer at reduced cost by the fall of 1984. According to the agreement, Dartmouth will purchase during the next three years at least $2 million worth of Apple equipment, including products not yet on the market. In addition, Apple has made a grant to the used at more than $260,000. Most of these computers including 25 of Apple's larger, more powerful Lisa computers will be distributed to the academic departments of the arts and sciences so that faculty members interested in developing computer-based course materials may do so in advance of the fall term. The College's contract with Apple complements existing and future arrangements with International Business Corporation (IBM) and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC).
