I have just a small amount of news this month to report to you. I hope that I will be receiving news from you in the coming weeks so that you will find something to read in this spot as the year goes by. Without your help there really is not enough news coming in from other sources to make up a column.
First of all, congratulations are in order to our classmate John R. McKernan Jr., who won election to the U.S. Congress from the state of Maine in November 1982. I am hoping to have further information on the election and a bit on Jock's background in forthcoming columns.
We have a new president in our class as well. Terry Lehman has been appointed president of the Detroit Strip Division of Cyclops Corporation effective January 1. Terry joined the division in 1971 and has held a variety of sales and operating positions since then. He was a vice president in charge of operations and had been responsible for the day-to-day operation of the division since August. Detroit Strip Division is a leading producer of cold-rolled, high- and low-carbon strip steel. The division is head- quartered in Detroit and has plants in both Detroit and New Haven, Conn.
I have received word from Pam and Kevin Kennedy of the birth of their children, Meaghin Laura Flaugher Kennedy and Denis Verne Flaugher Kennedy. The twins arrived on January 3. I understand that they are absolutely beautiful, and that Pam and Kevin are thrilled with their arrival. Kevin is doing an excellent job restoring old houses and Pam is director of a six-county transportation system. She also loves her work. They have really settled into Darlington, S.C. As Pam says, "Such grand people and what nice weather."
Finally, I must close on a sad note. Our classmate Dan Maynard passed away in November as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Dan leaves his wife Judith, in addition to his parents and a sister. Further details will be available in a forthcoming issue. In the meantime, Judith may be reached in Pittsfield, Mass.
