The record-setting 30th reunion has come and gone, but the deep thrill of renewing friendships lingers on. All the details of the reunion will be published in the September issue of the Magazine and in Don Goss's newsletter.
The first weekend in May was Green Key. In addition to putting on a whole range of social events and entertainments and bringing up a score of visiting teams from Princeton and Cornell, the College invited all of the class officers back for their annual meeting. It's a good event because the College goes out of its way to make sure that we hear from faculty, administration, and students on the complete range of current issues and interests. This year's topics included: the athletic program, including new coaches and intramurals; the effort to establish minimum standards of quality for fraternity housing and activities; campus security; and the planned improvement of the quality of residential life. There were also the workshops for each individual officer group that always go a long way in helping each one do his job better. And there were a lot of awards handed out. RonLazar was named Head Class Agent of the Year. The class of 1953 received honorable mention as Class of the Year. (That's becoming an annual event, as the College feels it would be too demoralizing to the rest of the alumni for us to annually take first prize, which we annually deserve.) We had 100 percent attendance for our officer group.
Saturday afternoon, Bob Simpson conducted our last class meeting before reunion. Fred England allowed as how we were solvent, and added that the new voluntary minireunion donations were a huge success. DonSmith presented the mini-reunion program for this fall, which I will outline later. BernieSudikoff reviewed final plans, attendance estimates, and details for the reunion. What a tremendous amount of energy has gone into this event. Al Collins and Ron Lazar jointly reviewed the Alumni Fund and the special efforts of reunion giving. Jack Newton had nothing new to report from the bequest area. And Paul Paganucci gave his report from the nominating committee. Dick Dunham, FredCarleton, and Don Goss were also present. That night, Bob and Anne Simpson were hosts of an elegant dinner for the retiring slate of officers and wives. We had such a good time that it's probably going to become an annual event.
In April, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern Massachusetts held an evening to honor Dartmouth's athletic greats. It was called "Wearers of the Green." There was an incredible turnout and it was an incredible evening. Among those present were Fred Stephens and Peter Reich. See elsewhere in the Magazine for further details.
Wade Sherwood was named president of Merritt Hospital in Oakland, Calif. After Dartmouth, Wade received his degree in medicine from the University of Rochester'. He has been at Merritt since 1963. His specialty is internal medicine.
Bobby Douglass was the 1984 Gordon Speaker for Daniel Webster Society.
Harry Jackson has announced that he has opened his own law office on California Street in San Francisco.
Stu Struever is looking for adult volunteers to join the Sand Canyon Pueblo Expedition in southwestern Colorado. Research will be conducted at one of the most significant archeological sites in the country. If you're interested, contact Stu at the Center for American Archeology, Northwestern University, P.O. October 13, after the game at Yale, a cocktail party at Sallyand Marty De Gennaro's house in Woodbridge. October 20, in Hanover against Harvard; the Norwich Inn is headquarters; class meeting Saturday morning and dinner that night; after the game, a cocktail party at Elsaand Chuck Luker's. November 3, in Hanover, a cocktail party at Nancy and Bill Johnson's after the Columbia game. And November 17, at Princeton, an after-the-game party at Debbe and Kester Pierson's. Plan on being there.
That's it for the summer. Have a good one And let us hear from you.
