Greetings to what is still a great class even though many of us are getting well into our 80s and having the problems of, shall we say, getting older. We all have some difficulties and do our best to overcome them. Our old scribe Ike Phillips has gone up to his summer place on Lake Ontario in Canada. He gets there by air or train or car and then by boat to his island retreat. Ross Perley, M.D., retired, is still living in Laconia, N.H., has four sons, has practiced for 50 years, and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1935 after graduating from UPenn. Russ is one of three members of the Dartmouth Medical School of 1924 still around. Others are Geo Crump and HerbHorne.
Carl Gray sends his green card from Raleigh, N.C. I did not know that there is snow there at this time of the year. Incidentally, his is the only new green card which has been returned. Fill them in. It only takes a very few minutes, and don't be modest about yourself.
A note from Phil Segal has just come in from Marblehead; he says he has seen Rusty Sargent and plays bridge with FredClark occasionally. More about Phil comes from a trade journal. Phil Jr., president of Almacs Supermarkets in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, reports that the remodeling of the Warwick market is complete and added 30,000 extra square feet to the store. He also has another project underway to enlarge his Greenville, R. I., store by some 50 percent. There are also another three remodeling jobs in a total of 40 stores. Grocery marketing seems to run in the family. Congratulations!
Karl Lundberg writes by way of CapPalmer that he and his wife, Marie, are both ardent workers in the local hospital with hundreds of hours of voluntary service. He also attends Rotary meetings, plays bridge, and, of all things, has a dinner-dance group, which must help in keeping on the young side of life.
Cap Palmer writes that as seniors we certainly should see Cocoon. It is all about the antics of those in our vintage. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Chet Bixby was a recent Dartmouth Alumni Award winner as was CharlieZimmerman.
Mitch May, retired, just says, "Keep well." And that goes from all of us to all of you.
