News from Hollywood: Conceived by

writer Earl MacRauch and director W.D Ritcher '68, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension has been described as "the first comical/rock and roll/action adventure/science fiction/western for the Big Chill crowd" and "an incredible roller coaster ride of a movie from beginning to end" (The Dartmouth). The movie opened last spring. And PeterGraves is living in the Hollywood Hills after leaving New York City and Warner Communications for an executive vice president post with Armand Hammer Productions, the feature film and television subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum. Peter writes: "I miss New York, but I do love L.A. I'm especially looking forward to the next earthquake."

News from the rest of the world: AndyHarvard was one of two guest speakers at an illustrated lecture last December at the Explorers Club in New York City on the subject of the 1981 and 1983 American expeditions which set out to climb the challenging East Face of Mount Everest. An immense wall of rock and ice accessible only through Tibet, the remote East Face had remained untouched and virtually unseen since Mallory's day until Andy's sole reconnaissance in 1980. Andy was a member of both 1981 and 1983 expeditions and authored an article on the subject for National Geographic. An Emmy Award-winning film on the 1981 attempt narrated by Sir Edmund Hillary was presented as part of the lecture.
