Dartmouth's 216 th Commencement, June 8, 1986, had 450 aspirants receiving advanced degrees and 1,050 seniors their B.A.'s.

The commencement season was especially touching for Stan Miner and his family. A granddaughter of Stan and Catherine, Linda Rhines, daughter of Constance (Miner) Rhines and her husband, Robert, Dartmouth '60, Thayer School '61, was 1922's representative among the Dartmouth B.A. recipients. Also in June, Mary Ann (Miner), wife of Dean-Martin, delivered the baccalaureate address at Rochester, Vt., High School, where she is a long-time teacher of math and chemistry. And it was only a year ago that Christina, daughter of Constance (Miner) and her husband, Ronald T. Murphy, Dartmouth '55, received her B.A. from Smith. It was somewhat more than a year ago, however, when the three Miner daughters received their degrees from Mt. Holyoke: Mary Ann in '52, Catherine '55, and Constance '60. "Educate a man and you benefit an individual; educate a woman and you teach a family."

Fortunately, Twoters never quit. Last summer, Bill Rex, playing at Gulfstream Golf Club, Delray Beach, Fla., came within a single stroke of achieving a senior golfer's greatest bogey: matching one's age. Sinking putts from all over the course, Bill finished with an 86! And a few weeks later he scored his first hole-inone. It was on the ninth at Gulfstream, a par three of 135 yards. Bill would love to know how these notes found out about his golf expertise nobody has that much luck! If he and Jean come back to the 65th reunion next June 12-14, well possibly, and if that is bribery, so be it.

Continuing these notes again, plagiarizing from Ray Atwood's excellent newsletter, "The Twoter." Its May 1986 issue reported the following, which all '22 classmates have undoubtedly read. But the many Dartmouth friends of Bill Bullen, our departed class president, were not limited to any class; therefore: "In recognition of Bill's forty years as its leader, his class has now established the Wilbur W. Bullen 1922 Memorial Book Fund for Baker Library. The fund is an endowment, the income of which will be used by the library for the purchase of books. Each book will have a distinctive bookplate indicating that it was purchased as a memorial to Bill. This is a class project in which Bill was greatly interested. It was prepared by him last summer (1985) and approved by the class executive committee in August 1985. Only his death (February 24, 1986) prevented its foundation last winter. It is most fitting that the only named fund 1922 has ever had should now bear his name as a lasting reminder of Bill's devotion to Dartmouth and and to his class."

Participation in the Wilbur W. Bullen 1922 Memorial Book Fund is not restricted to Bill's classmates. Contributions from Dartmouth alumni and other friends are gratefully acknowledged. A tax-deductible check payable to Dartmouth College can be sent to Carroll Dwight, 48 Fairgreen Place, Chestnut Hill, MA 02167.
