... As I was saying a month ago when I was so rudely interrupted well, maybe not rudely but at least cut off at the pass-it was a grand reunion, and you shooda been there! RE-YOU-II

Small problem in what to say here since, writing notes now, I'm not sure what got published there (last month). One thing for sure, I did fail to report a key member of your exec committee for the next half decade, although I got his name into the column. Jim Vail is bequest chairman as well as glee club warbler. Hope this admission of omission clears the record for the time being.

By now you've received Joe Medlicott's "sifty" newsletter with lotsa details on our 35th Touch of Class. He failed to include a roster of attendees and I can't compensate for his oversight, but I did have the temerity at the farewell banquet to challenge the ladies to send newsworthy items for publication. The least I can do is note that several departed classmates' better halves graced us with their presence and enhanced the reunion immensely. If the slate is correct, they included Mary Jane Devitt,Edie Gardner,Barbara Veghte, and Sally Burrill. Hope I came close to telling who was there.

Without adequate credit to the source of the info, I would like to report that Our Man in Hanover (apologies to Graham Greene) tells me we had good to respectable results on attendance and Alumni Fund participation. The 76 percent of our dollar objective seems disappointing, but the bucks are large and helpful. The 69 percent participation is more like what '50 ought to do! CHEATING

Since we haven't had time to establish a new channel of communications for the Alumni Magazine, I used the occasion of my forthcoming high school reunion to beat up on two of our "D" classmates. Anything for a note.

Rick Miller admits that his son, Eric '75, is married to Chuck Solberg's daughter and they have four sons. Wait a minute. Four guys? I musta missta the count. Rick says daughter Kathy and Roy have one child. Next daughter, Carolyn, is in law school in San Francisco? Whattarya tellin' me, Rick? I know you've got a lot of explaining to do!

Meanwhile, I couldn't seem to get across the space of the tent at reunion, much less across Darien, long enough to keep me up to date with what's happening with Prise and Whit Williams. Hmmm. Come to think of it, I was glued to the grass next to the piano till sunrise. Anyhoo, I heard noises about going to Bozeman, Mont., for wedding of Liz andHowie Richmond's son. Nice note: if the Preach don't reach, Prise can sub since she's already handling the pulpit at St. John's in Stamford, Conn. CORPORATE CAPERS

Not sure what's going on, but Paul vanOrden is in the middle of the action between RCA and GE on their merger visavis consumer electronics. Suggest you scan the WSJ, NYT, or call your broker. I dunno.

CLASS CALL Joel has asked, "What's your gripe?" So let him know!

Mine is that we've spent too much time on "The Symbol." I have Injuns all over the place and kids who say that's wrong. Loved seeing the murals in the Hovey Grill last June. Nostalgia, of course. At least. So let's get a replacement. One we can all rally 'round, 'kay? Vikings! Most Swedes and Norske won't realize we're being denigrated. After all, the only person dumber than a dumb Irishman is a smart Swede (my father told me). Minnesotan Vikes' fans agree? Can you live with it Tor Arneberg? FROM OTHER SOURCES

If you don't know whose tribute I'm citing, catch up with me at the next minireunion. Foster McGaw '20 died April 16. He and his wife, Mary, were honorary life trustees at The College of Wooster, whose alumni magazine said, "To the end of his life he maintained an informed, dynamic interest in his friends and his "causes." A dedicated Christian and generous philanthropist, he said, in a very real sense, he owned no property in his own name. Instead, he preferred to regard himself as God's steward, husbanding resources able to benefit the greatest number of persons over a period of time."

A benefactor of Dartmouth was commemorated elsewhere. Wish I'd had the byline on the kudos, but at least I can share them with you. AUTUMNAL ADIEU

By the time you read this, I'll bet the first snow will have fallen in Hanover and some of us will have mini-re-uned. If not, see ya!
