Navy Commander Bill Judd took over as commanding officer of the nuclear submarine USS Haddo in a ceremony which took place aboard the Haddo last February. Bill graduated from the College in 1967, and from the Thayer School in 1968, then received his commission through the Naval Officer Candidate School in 1969. He then was selected for the navy's nuclear power program and completed training in that program at Bainbridge, Md. Before taking over as skipper of Haddo, Bill was the executive officer aboard USS Narwhal. His personal military decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
The marriage of Fred Marcusa to the former Andrea Disario was announced recently. Fred is a concert flutist and a partner in the New York City law firm of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler.
Sugarloaf Mountain Corporation, operator of the biggest ski resort in Maine, has announced the appointment of WarrenCook as the resort's interim chief operating officer. The company has been undergoing reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Code, and Warren's goal is to complete the reorganization by the first of the new year. He was formerly president and chief executive officer of Chemical Fabrics Corpora- tion in Merrimack, N.H.
Marvin Soroos has been named head of the department of political science and public administration at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. A professor of political science, his field of specialization is international relations. His book, Beyond Sovereignty: The Challengeof Global Policy, is to be published soon by the University of South Carolina Press. He has studied in Japan and in India, has participated in the Fulbright-Hays Professional Development and Curriculum Enrichment Program, and was a guest researcher in Oslo, Norway, as a participant in the International Peace Research Institute.
Last June, President Reagan announced he was nominating Michael Darby to be an assistant secretary of the treasury. Presently a resident of Woodland Hills, Calif., he has been a professor of economics since 1978 at UCLA.
Lawyers with word of job opportunities should get in touch with Harris Wagenseil, who has recently taken on the job of editing and publishing "Jobs for Dartmouth Lawyers," a quarterly publication of the Dartmouth Lawyers' Association. Apparently, his first edition was delayed by an unexpected stay in the hospital ("I recommend that lawyers over 40 ride their racing bicycles more carefully than I did"), but the first edition hit the streets in late June.
