A goodly number of these welcome news items came from green cards sent to Alice Weymouth and will appear in unabridged form in the Twenty that she promises to produce "before the winter solstice."
From Albert Steinbrecher in Santa Barbara the news that he and Helen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 14 with regards to all from a classmate who is "disgustingly healthy for age 89."
Doris Richardson writes that she has just moved to Petersboro, N.H., to be near her son, Dr. Fred Richardson '46, who is on the staff of the Monadnock Hospital. Doris now boasts of 11 great- grandchildren five girls and six boys. She sees Hilda Gross quite often.
Another New Hampshire move: Hildegarde Spalding of Laconia has moved to the Taylor Home in that city. She had a good visit from Doris and Hilda in August and reports that both looked "hale and hearty."
"Sig" Sigler and Betty have returned to Florida after a year in a retirement home in Maryland. "We were not quite ready for congregate living," he writes. Sig talked with Bing Whitaker and Jane, who live in Clearwater, during the summer.
Ted Marden's daughter, Betty Hyde, writes that her father, who has been in a fine retirement home for ten years, maintains his "wonderful high spirits and good nature," joins in all the activities he can, and "would love to hear from anyone who cares to write him." (33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301.)
At Governor Sununu's Volunteer Recognition Award Ceremony, held in Manchester on September 28, Edith Amsden was honored as Grafton County's outstanding volunteer. Edith last year contributed 1,469 volunteer hours at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and was recently elected to the auxiliary board of directors. With typical modesty, she says she got the award because of her age. We know better!
In a good letter from Phoenix, LauraCarter says she has postponed her Virginia trip until spring, "as son Doug and his Terry have recently been here."
The Holbrooks and President ShermAdams attended the pre-Penn-game
luncheon for early classes on September 20, meeting a number of '21 and '22 people, and Pat and I also attended the Navy game at Annapolis.
From Sherm came the announcement that son Sam '59 has been appointed professor and head of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.
We are deeply grieved to learn of Sherm's death on October 27. An obituary will follow.
Thanks for the abundance of news and the season's blessings to all!
