Ever wonder how Chip Debelius got a nickname like "Denebs?" Probably only the illustrious (and numerous) brothers of Alpha Chi know the true story. Well, whatever else they say about the guy,

he's a prince when it comes to sending me information. You would think that a trickle of letters might wend its way here independently. Yeah, yeah, I know, complain, complain, just like a voice crying in the wilderness.

When last we left our heroes, we were in search of some heroes, that is. Michael Hanna writes of being married and living in New York City. That's heroic enough. Michael and his wife, Abigail, are both heavily involved in the medical scene. Mike will be finishing his residency at Columbia-Presbyterian and will begin a research fellowship in heart disease in July. Abigail attends Cornell Med School. (These days people don't necessarily live together "happily ever after.")

Laura Robertson has one. Jon Zehner will have one. Lots of us don't necessarily need one, at least right now. What are they? Well, I've always said that if you needed something to write home about, have children. John '76 and Custis Spencer Glover have Johnno (two years) and are expecting more good news in August. Having the children is prompting saner decisions over life-styles, as shown by the Glovers' change of residence from New York to Canton Center, Conn.

The kiddy corner continues with EllenGomprecht Oppenheim's admission that she is expecting a second "tax deduction" in July. The Oppenheims' first, a girl, is apparently at the age where she can at last voice her long-felt instinctive support for the Dartmouth football team.

Pat Crowell and his wife, Susan, expect September to bring radical changes in their Portland, Ore., life-style. Granted, Pat will continue to work as an insurance broker with Marsh and McLennan, but Susie plans to take a year off from her career in speech pathology - just long enough to give the newest Crowell a little momentum into the world. Pat spoke of seeing Ernie Schmider briefly while Ernie was in town for some legal practice.

When I last saw George Stone, he was going to sell me some auto insurance. Now I find out by his own admission that he's "ruthlessly" doubling the commerical liability insurance premiums of his clients. Whew, that was close! George delivered word of his upcoming May wedding to Patricia Sullivan and their plans for a honeymoon in the British Virgin Islands. Honeymoons like that are definitely an incentive to get married, periodically, if necessary.

Bill Gottesman never did quite get the far north out of his veins and now looks forward to joining a group practice in family medicine in either New Hampshire or Vermont. He will complete his residency at Duke this spring. Of course, Bill, the basketball won't be quite the same. The medical crowd seems to be successfully coping with its self-imposed hermitage. Jean Madinger Johnson plans to pursue a research-oriented fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology (the study of "ones") on Long Island.

Tony Jones and his wife moved into a house recently, which means that about now the combination of the words "money-pit" should be particularly meaningful. Tony works at Hewlitt-Packard, and his teaching duties at Howard University in electrical engineering and computer sciences limit the time that can be allotted to house chores. Sheila Jones is in her third year at Howard Med. So who cuts the grass?

Another Washingtonian, KarenSchuldt, has just come up for air after spending the last three years running the executive recruiting firm started by her dad, while at the same time planning a new business called "Care On Call." Karen's new enterprise will provide care for sick kids whose parents can't take the day off from work.

Finally, I'm beginning to get down to particularly sketchy information, so don't read more than you should into it when I say that the newest couples are LouisaGuthrie and Byron, and Lizanne Galbreath and John. Ta ta.
