Know anyone who might be the "personification of the achievement-directed contemporary woman?" Of course you know that it's a '79, but who? Well, the Dreyfus Group is obviously mighty proud of Kristy Wienschreider Rudel from the looks of the literature that they put out on her. Kristy is the V.P. of Dreyfus Service Corporation and directs the marketing activities of their Mastercard program, home mortgage department, auto loans, and other services. She joined Dreyfus in 1983 after having worked for General Foods and Nestle the previous two years. Stanford B. School is looking to have been a wise investment. Just so you don't think that Kristy is all work and no play, she and Tony are happily married (according to Dreyfus) and are in the midst of redecorating their co-op in New York City's Upper West Side.

I see that there are some other happy couples out there. Proctor Reid and his wife, Ann, had a son, Samuel, in June 1986. Proctor teaches government at Oberlin College.

One would have to include Mary Ann Zetes and her husband Peter Mazonson in the "happy" category since the two are expecting a child in September after they've completed their move to Menlo Park, Calif. Mary Ann is joining a pediatric group practice in Los Altos and Peter has been awarded a scholarship by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to get an M.B.A. in health management from Stanford. Hey man, like the M.D. wasn't enough, like overkill, man.

Ah, you say, "We're still not satisfied. We want even happier couples." OK, OK. Laura Robertson Duncan had a son, Sanford, last October; is in the middle of her second year at Dartmouth Med. School; and plans to travel with her husband, David, when he conducts research for his next book. Right now, Dave is in the middle of writing about traveling from Capetown to Cairo. Laura is also racing on a ski team with Penny Breed, now a Hanover lawyer. (Of course, maybe I'm wrong about these couples. Maybe their lives are one living hell. Pause. Nah.)

So we go from those whose marriages are working to those who've yet to find out. Ray Gladhue was just married this past spring to Chris Drumm in Baltimore, as reported by Jim Geller. Ray invited a lot of people, but the only ones who came were Jeff Jackson, Nigel Key, Bob Garry 'BO, Scott Slater 'BO, and Dudley Hendrick, former Dartmouth lacrosse coach. Jim and his happily married wife, Isabel, live in New Hampshire on the Connecticut River facing Mt. Ascutney. And it was on that very same mountain that Jim saw Bruce Bierman skiing last winter.

Mark Tomalonis is also braving the perils of "duality" with his November wedding to Kathleen Hauslein of Lajolla and U.C. Berkeley. Congrats, Mark, you married a California girl. I sensed a realism of the best kind in this marriage after learning that Mark had chosen a cruise to Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean as a means of correcting the couple's deficiency in shuffleboard skills.

Now I know that you're all interested in the third category, those marriages that are not working, but hey, I'm not sufficiently burned out to stoop so low. (Chip? Hint, Hint. It would be a memorable newsletter.)

Dave Brown has emerged. Of course, he waited until his Indiana team won the NCAA's but nevertheless. Dave is V.P. of economic development at the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, which sounds from Dave's description to be a fairly aggressive group. He just returned from his second business trip to Japan in the last six months. Dave's wife, Maggie, and their two-year-old son, Gregory, were very glad to see Dad home. (That's the Midwest for you, nostalgic and sentimental.)

Joe Arch emerged as well, not from the heartland but from the Rue Gaston, Paris, France. After Yale Law School, Joe headed off to the good life in London with Bain & Co. Still, he soon realized that life across the channel was even better and he now runs his own business in France. For those of us thinking that this sounds perfect, even Joe admits to frustrating moments at times. Ah, but the champagne never stops, yes?

Anyone know of a good "Dartmouth activity" going on in Southern California? Seems that Chris Lucas has moved to L.A. with his M.B.A. fresh from the U. of Colorado and is looking to party. Chris's work in travel and tourism marketing research would make him an asset at any function

Have a good summer everyone.
