Jimmy Gregg, class president, couldn't get Peter Barry to write this month's guest column as it appears Peter left no forwarding address for his three-week tryst in Hong Kong. So in his absence, three of us have gathered some news.

Sometimes it seems as if Hanover acts as a powerful magnet, sucking '83s back to New England, or at least keeping them from straying too far away. The magnet's pull works strongly at concentrating people in Boston, where so many of our

classmates have decided to study or settle at one time or another. One of the Celticcheering horde is Paul Fechtelkotter, who lives in Boston's trendy Back Bay. Fetch splits his time between working for Raytheon and protecting his car.

If Fetch were to drive his car past the Boston Garden and over to Charlestown, he'd find Glenn Eddy slaving away in his Bunker Hill condo between a stack of BU law books and a pile of marginally legal real estate plans. Another '83 pulled to Boston by the Hanover magnet is MollyJohnson, who lives in Newton and works for Analog devices. A short drive up the North Shore brings us to Lynn, where SalCaruso brings good things to life at GE.

Resisting the magnet's pull only slightly is Nancy Grindlay, who is pursuing her Ph.D. in something like marine geology at the University of Rhode Island. Nancy gets away from her studies by making transatlantic National Geographic-type voyages from South Africa to Brazil and vice versa. Says Nancy, "It's exactly like the Love Boat, without pools, drinks, fancy food, staterooms, dancing, lounge chairs, Charo, or Bill Bixby."

A little bit further south we find StanWilliams, hard at work for Arthur Andersen in Hartford. Stan managed to latch on to a project where he makes occasional journeys to New Zealand, where the sheep population is greater than the human population. Another few miles to the south is Dave Persampieri, living in Hamden and working for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Percy reports that Adam Peck is finishing up law school at Vanderbilt and also passed on that Adam is getting married to another J.D.

Resisting Hanover's magnetic powers almost completely is Dave Wallinga, who is learning how to cure frostbite, hypothermia, and boredom at the University of Minnesota's med school. If there are any other '83s who are braving life west of the Mississippi, please let us know.

Capitalist news from around the country: Ken Weinsten will be going to Harvard B-School next year. He will join the illustrious ranks of other notable '83s there, such as Rob Bowers, Charlie Morrison, Michele Ott, and Sally Moyer. Closer to his job as an account officer at Manufacturers Hanover, Joe Dempsey is working toward his M.B.A. at NYU at night. Back on the Hill, Matt Haley will be attending Tuck. Tracy Weatherby suns in Maui and skis Taos; she vacations at Stanford B-School. More announcements of this type will be forthcoming as letters of resignation are submitted.

Wedding announcements: Mike Chaudoin reports Joe Crotty will be hitched in April. Deno Mokas reports Rick Stafford will be married June 29 to Lindsay Warwick, a Colgate graduate. John Asher claims John David is engaged. Congratulations to Bob and Lynn Schrieb on the birth of their daughter (class of '08). RoxyOkon, Peter Barbur, and Judy Bell made a personal visit to Chicago to congratulate Dee Willis on her engagement.

Steve Jennings, our long-lost valedictorian, is torturing students at the St. Marks Prep School with his newly acquired Oxford knowledge. Doug Cowen is working toward his Ph.D. in Geneva at the Cern Laboratory. He will be a doctor of high energy particle physics. Molly Langan is also finishing law school this year at NYU. You can tell she's effectively done because of all the time she spends hanging out at Pete's Tavern. John Havard couldn't get enough of a good thing and is back at Thayer working towards his master's. In his spare time John enjoys root canal and slamming his hand in car doors. Sue Smith is working for New England Telephone in Boston, purging computer files of all alumni's bills. Amy Bloch is having fun with her cadaver at Yale (hiss) med school in lovely New Haven. She really likes Yale med school; they don't grade students there. Tom Coleman is a grad student working at Yale. His research team has virtually discovered a cure for diabetes. Seriously!

That's all the news that fits. However, here's one last piece of info! The Mets are going all the way this year. No joke.

Three former Dartmouth athletes are now pilots of the airwaves (or perhaps air trafficcontrollers would be more accurate) at WMCA Radio in New York City. Left to right areAnne Hartwell '85, operations assistant; Jeanne Straus '79, vice president, operations; andfan Gordon '84, executive producer. That's 57 AM on your dial.
