Dear Class: Welcome to the crisp days of fall and the new 500-word format for this column. Although the column will be shorter, there will be space elsewhere in the book for profiles of class members and sidebars on things of interest. Let's get back to the "quickies from the questionnaires."
John Burnap is hale and hearty after a spring of rebuilding (prostate, total hip replacement, and a few other repairs). He is president and CEO, Learning Unlimited Corp.; United Tool Process Corp.; ODM, Inc. All five children in grand shape. NatSample is retired but active with small projects: architecture volunteer work, goofing off, painting, and travel. Five children and six grandchildren in Maine, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin. Bud Schlivek retired, busy referencing and indexing thousands of photos taken for the regional plan association (NYC) over the past 25 years. Daughter Kathy a book editor/designer and married; daughter Laurie, married and farming in Cabot, Vt. Three grandchildren.
Don Shippam is triply retired: from USNR (Comdr.), McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics (eng. mgr.), and Pacific Valves (eng. mgr.). Don saw Dick Gray and StuMacPhail at 50th high school reunion last year. Alice and Don cruise the Caribbean, travel the West Coast, and visit Hawaii. They are planning to come to the 50th. Good show! Sam Snow still does some parttime consulting for Travelers Insurance and fills out the week with volunteer church work, tennis, and gardening. Three sons (single) in Dallas area.
Henry Stokes is treasurer of a whole bunch of organizations, including the Hull Lifesaving Museum and New England Friends Home. He is also trustee and manager of the Stokes Foundation. He still finds time to be on his 42' Casey yawl and to travel. But the view of Hingham Harbor at home is still the finest. Chuck Wilde is doing research in molecular biology as emeritus professor . . . he's as busy after retirement as before (sound familiar?). They have a daughter in Florence, Italy; son Chip is a professor of microbiology at Indiana; daughter Deborah an art historian of the Renaissance; Dixon is a research scientist with Upjohn.
Will Williamson is semi-retired and running his mailing-list brokerage business from his home in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Will plants the trees and shrubs on their 4 + acres, while wife El takes care of the flower and vegetable gardens. Busy times! That concludes our quickies—but we still need to hear from a lot more of you out there!
A nice note from Pat "James" Timothy down on Longboat Key. He has a new zip, 34228, and expressed high hopes for what the new president may be able to do at the College. So say we all! Patti and Bill Squier are happy in N.C. but note that it is a little far from Hanover. They have been cruising to the Panama Canal and Acapulco. DonFox, whom we last saw in Annapolis last fall, says "We must remember that football is only a game!" Don continues , in good shape and reports a slight change of address: P.O. Box 1602, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Jack Rourke still active, packaging and producing television shows and publishing a special supplement to the L.A. Times called Seasons. Son Tim is a psychologist and daughter Jonda is a v.p. with the Buffums Department store chain. And, we'll wrap up the column by acknowledging notes from: Lee Bassett, just back from five weeks in Africa; Hal Sommer, who is still hard at it for Jockey International; Ted Gates, who admits to no birthdays; and our peripatetic painter, Tom George, who is summering in rainy Norway. Regards to all.
