Class president Peter Jaffe and wife Joan hosted a well-attended barbeque for Dartmouth types at their "Double J" Ranch in McCoy, Colo., in August. Some of those who were present are pictured nearby.

Herb Grant appears to have a busier schedule in early retirement than most of us do on our jobs. After three and a half years in the Marine Corps and two years in an electronics company, he spent the next 21 years in a family business a $60-million manufacturing company which had grown to 1,100 employees in three locations. For the last ten years Herb was its president. In January he accomplished his long-time goal of retiring at age 50 by selling the family business. Since that time, he has found himself busier than ever. He is vice-chairman of the board of trustees of a hospital, and serves on the board of directors of a bank, as well as that of the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire. In addition, he is vice president of an organization which he describes as an outdoor museum of growing national stature, has a small consulting company specializing in family businesses with growth problems, and is teaching a course this fall in human relations at UNH. To make sure he doesn't get bored, he and Linda have bought and plan to preserve and restore an 1840 centerchimney farmhouse, complete with a charming big barn on six acres of land. All this hardly leaves him time for skiing, racquetball, golf, and tennis. Herb points out that even though his oldest daughter has a four-year-old son, he has trouble thinking of himself as a grandfather. (Ed. note: Small wonder, with your schedule, Herb.) Herb promised he would write me again if he "retires from retirement."

Fellow New Hampshire resident PeteRichmond writes from Canterbury that he is vice president of finance at Globe Manufacturing, Pittsfield. Pete and his family have lived in New Hampshire for the past 15 years. Now that his children are grown and on their own, says Pete, he has found the time to become "an avid fisherman, golfer, and skier." While indulging in his passion for golf at Hilton Head Island, S.C., last spring, Pete ran into Lou Gerber, who, as we reported in the June '87 issue, is the new owner-operator of the delightful Cafe Europa located in Harbourtown, Hilton Head Island. Speculates Pete: "Either Lou has aged more gracefully than I, or the change [by Lou from his previous endeavors] really agrees with him."

Wells "Banger" Langbehn writes from Illinois that his daughter Amy graduated from Springfield High School, and is attending Indiana University this fall. He mentions that Ted Robinson called, spoke to Sue and said that he might be out their way. Banger's epistle received before the start of football season, expressed his sentiments, no doubt shared by many of us, for an improved Big Green gridiron record this fall.
