Greetings from Atlanta! I am ecstatic to tell you that people have actually called me with news! Keep it up! Christine Hughes called me to give me the incredible news that she is going to work for Harvard! It turns out that Harvard has figured out that Dartmouth grads make the best lawyers, so she is joining the office of general counsel of Harvard University. The office has more staff from Dartmouth than any other school. This defection to the enemy is inexcusable, but maybe she could redeem herself if she would redirect a few bequests to Hanover. Over a million, please . . .
Speaking of counselors, Tim Danello's May wedding was reported in a Kansas City newspaper clipping Paul Huhn forwarded to me. Since Tim is living in Bethesda, Md., and working for the same company I do, I took this opportunity to call him and find out. why his wedding was getting national coverage. Although the wedding was in Alexandria, his bride, Patricia Rathkamp, is from Kansas City. Nick Caridas and MikeGray were in attendance. Patricia is a banker, and Tim is acting general counsel for Oxford Development. You will be pleased to know that Tim was acting like a general counsel when I called. He would divulge no news of other '78s.
Rick Hoeg's activities were reported in the Minneapolis paper. Rick is a technical training specialist for micro computers and engineering at Honeywell. He is also active on several community boards.
Anne Barschall took pity on me and sent me some notes she took at the telethon in June. Way to go! Jim Wiggin got married three years ago to Janet Kluge. He has graduated from U. of Cincinnati Law and currently works for Paxton & Seasongood in Cincinnati. Jim and Janet are happy to announce the birth of James W. Wiggin IV, last February. (Look for the Wiggin photo in an earlier class.) Jim also reports RobPortman has recently moved to town as has Allen P. Grunes. Both are lawyers.
Leonard Weiser-Varon was taking paternity leave to enjoy his son Aaron, born on New Year's Day. Lenny's wife, Amy, had gone back to her law firm and Lenny was taking a five-month paternity leave. Gary Taylor, now living in Delaware, had one child plus one on the way (probably here now). Gary is practicing law.
Bruce Shames is a dermatology resident at SUNY-Buffalo. He had already completed an internal medicine residency and will probably also do a dermatology fellowship. Janeen Roehr was making a career change from advertising to teaching. She planned to start teaching this fall, and looks forward to making a real difference with hestudents. Irving Richardson is also enjoying a teaching career (elementary school). He and wife, Kathy, have a son Jamie who is three and a daughter Amanda, six months.
Vicki Smith is living in Lyme and working as a senior planner for the Upper Valley Community Land Trust, which tries to preserve land in the Upper Valley. Vicki is living on a farm herself and had her first lamb born this year. Micheal Pittenger is also living in New Hampshire and working for Whistler Company, which makes radar detectors. His wife, Linda, graduated from Mary Hitchcock and is currently working part time as a nurse there. Michael and Linda have three children: Lindsay, five, Laura, three, and Haley, two. Michael sent word of Bob Gross, who recently had a baby girl, Hilary. Michael also sees ChrisLynch. No details about what he sees him doing.
Anne's last call was to Steve Pesceckis who graduated from MIT three years ago. Steve is currently working on anti-asthma drugs and has recently received patents on his work.
Well, that's the news. Send more!
