The mass-mailing of the Ernest Martin Hopkins Institute's first newsletter left alumni wondering if the College provided the New York-based group with names.

"The College did not supply the Hopkins Institute with our mailing lists," said Mike Choukas Jr. '51, the director of alumni affairs, "nor would we if requested. It is against College policy to permit the release, or use of, any Dartmouth mailing list by a non-Dartmouth organization."

The Hopkins Institute is an independent organization formed by a group of alumni to counteract their perception that the College favors liberals when bringing outside speakers to campus. The institute's founders, preferring to remain autonomous, declined a College invitation to participate in and support programs that bring conservative speakers the College.
