In this month's mailbag is word that John Moody was the featured speaker at a program earlier this year in South Londonderry, Vt., on the subject of the Western Abanaki Indians, their history, and culture, sponsored by the Londonderry Historical Society. The program was funded in part by a matching grant from the Vermont Council on the Humanities and Public Issues. John studied Native American history extensively, notably the Abanakis, whose ancestors lived on land now part of the states of Vermont and New Hampshire and the Canadian province of Quebec. John, who has the tribe's permission to speak about their history, also speaks the Abanaki language fluently.
Moses Pendleton's Momix dance company, noted for its freewheeling, daredevil performances on stilts and skis, performed this spring at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco in ensemble with Shadofax, a world-music jazz batid. The dance troupe's six dancers performed 12 pieces with the jazz ensemble as part of the two groups' recent tour. In addition to co-founding the dance company Pilobolus, Moses choreographed and performed for numerous companies, including the Joffrey Ballet and Paris Opera.
That's all for now. We'll be back next month.
