50 Well, Rachel Newkirk and daughter Cristin pulled it off—a huge surprise party for Jack to celebrate his 65 th birthday and 40th anniver sary in business. The blast was held August 8 at the Tara Hyannis Hotel and Resort on Cape Cod, where 120 of Jack's dearest friends gathered for hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and "roasting." Dan Featherstone concluded with serious and moving remarks. Sunday Rachel hosted a mini-reunion attended by Maureen and David Devoe, Joanne andFrank Dickinson, Mary and JacquesHarlow, Frank Harrington, Ben Johnson,Ginny and Bob Kirby, Sue and LenMadess,Marge and Fizz Nichols, Betsy Pinkham,Janot and Tom Ruggles, Karen and DavidTaylor, and Marlene and Ed Tuck. Bobbie and I were terribly disappointed that family obligations prevented our going. Congratulations to Jack, and compliments to Rachel and Cristin for a great surprise and party. Jack says he will remember it the rest of his life.

I am sorry that I have just received word of the death of David Sleeper last year, August 17. He was a professor of marketing at the University of South Florida for 25 years. Our sympathy to his widow, Judith, two sons, and two daughters. Also, Wes Carr died in January. As of this writing I have no further information. We send our condolences to Betty and their two children, Susannah and Tommy. Harry Graves sent word that A1 Wentworth died in 1989, and Stretch Pendleton wrote that Brad Richardson died of cancer on April 29. Brad lived in Littleton, Colo. He had roomed with Stretch in Middle Fayerweather and was a brother of mine in Theta Delta Chi. Our sympathy goes to Ann, their two sons, and their daughter.

Stretch also wrote that he saw Jean andChip Chapman at their camp in Sunderland, Vt. Stretch practices law in Manchester Center, Vt., and continues to play bridge, mosdy in regional and national tournaments.

In response to Joe Medlicott's list of missing classmates, Hilda Peach wrote that Dick died in 1986. We regret we did not know that. Sanford Pooler died in June of cancer. Our sympathy to Sandy and their two children.

Bill Patten retired in 1988 after 38 years as a teacher and athletic director in Wilmington, Del. He continues to coach girls' tennis, directs the West Chester (Pa.) Summer Tennis Program, and supervises social studies students at the University of Delaware. We are sorry to learn that his wife, Mary Jane, died last January. John Brotherhood is retired from Block Island, R. I ., and much involved in environmental issues. He has four children and six grandchildren. "I've been chipping away at the Appalachian Trail. Started at Katahdin in 1979, heading south." He has probably reached Connecticut by now. Life goal is Bear Mountain Bridge by the turn of the century.

Rhodes College has awarded its 1992 Distinguished Service Medal to Ken Clark for "his leading role in civic and cultural life of Memphis, in his profession and in the life of this College." Ken is a senior partner in the law firm of Mcdonnell Boyd. Congratulations, Ken!
