Greetings. Congratulations are due to Bob Bachelder who was recently installed as a missionary with the First Congregational Church in the Worcester area. As the Minister for Mission and Service of the Worcester Area Missionary Society, Bob manages the Society's centerpiece projects (such as Habitat for Humanity), serves as a resource person for worship and programing for individual congregations and clusters of congregations, directs the use of church mission contributions to their best advantage, and serves in leadership positions in addressing issues of concern to the society.
Like his father and grandfather, Bob went to Dartmouth and Yale Divinity School. Before entering the ministry he was a trader in the municipal finance department of the Rhode Island Hospital Trust in Providence. He was a parish minister in Shrewsbury, Mass., and in Great Britain, and is the author of two books of sermons and over a dozen periodical articles. He lives in North Oxford with his wife, Beverly, and his infant son Stephen.
Congratulations are also due to SteveBolster, associate professor of music at Berea College. Steve recently received the Seabury Award for Excellence in Teaching. This is Berea's highest faculty honor. In making the award to Steve the faculty quoted one student who described Steve as "so full of energy and love of life that nothing can slow him down." Steve also holds degrees from the University of North Carolina and the University of Colorado. He joined the Berea faculty in 1980.
Jim Sullivan was recently named to a top position with Salomon Brothers. He and his wife, Mary, have two children, Matt (age four) and a new baby, Catherine.
Although this has been mentioned before, it is worth congratulating Gary Tomlinson, who chairs the University of Pennsylvania Department of Music, for his recent award or "genius grant," from the John D. and Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundation. A musicologist, Gary is the author of "Monteverdi and the End of Renaissance."
Finally, congratulations are also due to George Kidder, who was recently named treasurer of the board of trustees of the Fenn School in Concord, Mass. George is also active in alumni relations for Dartmouth (where he served on the Alumni Council) and also for St. Mark's School in Southboro, Mass.
Bob Barr and Brad Little continue to do a fantastic job in preparing for our 15th Reunion. I hope that you all make it. See you next month. Wishing you the best of holidays!
