I regret to inform the class that on June 30, 1987, Reverend Jere Smith died of a heart attack in Coral Springs, Fla. Jere had been very active in Dartmouth affairs during the past several years and it is with great sadness that our sympathies are extended to his wife, Jean, and his sons Jere Jr. and Brian.

Recently, I happened to be thumbing through the March issue of Running Times, one of several magazines which exploit man's inexplicable craving for pain. Throughout the magazine, there was constant reference to Perry Butler's "Perry's to Perry's Half-Marathon & 8K." The race is one of the few that crosses the Golden Gate Bridge as runners make their way between Perry's two restaurants—the original Perry's on Union Street in San Francisco and his newer version in Marin County's Mill Valley. Bottles of champagne were awarded to those who could beat Perry's time between the two locations and, according to reports, about a third of the 1,500 runners got a bottle.

In mid-April we expect to send every member of the class a questionnaire, the results of which will be used in our 25th Reunion yearbook. A year from the date you get the questionnaire in the mail, you will receive the yearbook. A lot of work will be taking place during that year, and the ultimate success of the yearbook depends solely on everyone returning the questionnaire and also submitting a short narrative. Please cooperate in this effort, because the final product can be a wonderful addition to the sum of our Dartmouth experience.
